JW Villiers Engine Number Data

Home
Villiers engine numbers are of the form xxxx-yyyyyy, they also have a model.
The xxxx is an ID such as 723B and yyyyyy is the serial number 123456. The IDs were not unique to an engine type but were to indicate an engine variant and often a variant to a particular manufacturer (such as Sun, Norman, or Excelsior). The model, such as 32A, cover a wide number of IDs but generally give a farily tight definition of the engine design. For many of the later models (such as 9E 32A..) the engine ID and serial number has on a plate attached to the inner chaincase cover, during the passage of time these get replaced, so Villiers ensured that many engines would remain anonymous!
For Example, Engine 338D was a Villiers 2T engine supplied to DMW for installation in their Deemster Sport bike.
In general, the engine is a 249cc twin, bore & stroke 59 x 63.5mm fitted with a S22 carb.
Gear ratios for 4 speed box are 3.06, 1.90, 1.32, 1.00
