Annotated section of chart: shows radar and magnetic bearings of position of f/v Walter & Daphne when at point "W.O." (November 24, 1979, edition of NOAA chart 11523). This was the radar position of the boat, as determined by Captain Walter O'Neal, during Spence's first dive on the remains of the buoy, which once marked the wreck of the USS Housatonic. This is positive evidence that Spence did not mistake the buoy for the wreck of the Civil War submarine Hunley as some have incorrectly claimed.

See significant Hunley discovery evidence: Dr. Spence's 1980 and 1981 sketches of the rivet pattern of the buoy that was used to mark the wreck of the Civil War submarine Hunley's victim USS Housatonic. These sketches and notes are positive proof that Dr. E. Lee Spence did not mistake remains of the buoy for the wreck of the Hunley as some have incorrectly claimed.
