The third solo album from Animal Collective's Noah Lennox (aka Panda Bear) is completely unlike its predecessor, as it is both upbeat and electronic, sounding like a spacey, 21st century Beach Boys album.

Like Animal Collective, Lennox pulls off the trick of being simultaneously poppy and abstract, winsome and deranging.

An album this undeniably imaginative, consistent and immersive comes as a wonderful surprise and proof that maybe music isn't as lost as it seems. [Apr 2007, p.107]

The Onion (A.V. Club)
Sometimes ominous, sometimes celebratory, always compelling, Person Pitch is as clattering and tactile as a beaded curtain.

Tiny Mix Tapes
For an album constructed from so many constituent parts, Person Pitch is amazingly warm and inviting at times, wrapping around the ears, nestling the head, and squeezing like a nice familial bear hug after years of no contact.

Dusted Magazine
In a year that will feature not just a new long-player from Lennox's Animal Collective but also a box set's worth of rare material, it may be hard to surpass the haunting, blissful pageantry of Person Pitch.

Almost Cool
Essentially, Person Pitch is an amazing third album from the young musician, on a par with the best work of the Animal Collective. Striking just the right balance between melody, song, and experimentation, it's one of the best albums of the year so far.

Lost At Sea
The strength of Person Pitch is that it really doesn't matter what label might be affixed to it; quite simply, it is a gorgeous album from beginning to end.

Prefix Magazine
Although it's certainly inventive in approach and execution, there's no denying that Person Pitch sees Lennox working within decidedly pop-centric parameters.

It's as lucid a marriage of the eneffably strange and crayon-bright catchy as 2007 is likely to see. [Apr 2007, p.58]

Under The Radar
The sheer ingenuity with which he illustrates his immaculate tone poem makes Person Pitch as imaginative as any pop album you’ll hear this year. [#17, p.92]

Alternative Press
It's the glorious melodies and cavernous, quasi-dub-like production that conspire to make Person Pitch one of the most beguiling, intoxicating releases of 2007 thus far. [May 2007, p.161]

ShakingThrough.net
Person Pitch is a paradoxically personal yet expansive work, a set that seems incredibly intimate to Lennox but universally open to a world of possibilities.

Spin
Somehow, these constant flourishes enhance, rather than obscure, the disc's plentiful catchy bits, giving Person Pitch a resonant, off-kilter charm. [Apr 2007, p.93]

All Music Guide
The sweetness is almost too gooey, and what should be providing a healthy contrast ends up dragging the best instrumental moments down more than once, almost literally getting in the way of the striking sonic collages. It may be heresy to some, but conceivably Person Pitch would be at its best if it were strictly instrumental.

No Ripcord
The beautiful melodies and harmonies don’t actually go anywhere, they just kind of float in and out of earshot, failing to develop or do anything harmonically interesting.

Marc gave it a10:
This is not a 'love it or hate it' album; it's a 'love it or don't get it' one. It is very cohesive, never self-indulgent, and just a joy to listen to. Thank you, Panda Bear.

Adam P. gave it a9:
Amazing album. Love the reverb, vocal harmonies, and upbeat guitars.

Simon W gave it a7:
Pleasant enough.

z jepsen gave it a7:
Good. Very good, at times. But not as amazing as many would claim, nor as horrid, either. Looking at these reviews, most people give the album a 9 or a 10, or they give it a ridiculously low score of a 1 or a 2. None are correct. Person Pitch, essentially, is 3 or 4 really good tracks sandwiched by a few forgetful ones. The album is, additionally, at times way too saccharine. They are all pleasant. But "pleasant" does not an amazing album make. Yes, it is hyped. And yes, you earn instant indy cred by name-dropping Noah Lennox. Coincidentally, the best tracks on the album were already released on various EPs. Buy it for tracks like “Comfy in Nautica,” “Take Pills,” “Good Girl/Carrots” and, especially, “Bros.” The rest are more or less forgettable. Four good tracks out of seven. Bandwagoners, you are wrong: This is not flawless. Naysayers, you are wrong, too: There is plenty to enjoy here; it is not the waste of time you claim. To the uninitiated: Just keep in mind what you’re getting into and don’t let behavioral bias in either direction sway your opinion. But, stay open, stay interested and give it a shot.

Lord Poppycock Von Tinsel Drawers gave it a10:
Best Album of 07 hands down. A masterpiece. This hasn't left my ipod since the day I got it. And Neil C, I'll be back in 3 years for my money.

Alex R gave it a10:
I think just like the National's Alligator and Boxer, this album is a grower. At first, I walked in behind the hype of high critical outlets. I was left disappointed, but recently, I decided to listen to it as a record and not as a number. The result was a pleasant, poppy yet distant record. The cheer from album seller "Bros" continues throughout the record. And those with the low ratings: state your reasons for your score instead of trying to judge the people reviewing the record. It's called an opinion, grow up.

J. K. gave it an8:
If The Beach Boys had ran unabashedly into the realm of psychedelics and dropped their surf boards for hang gliders, this is probably what you would have heard. Which is pretty funny, considering this is four decades after the fact. It's almost like a looking glass nostalgic for those simpler musical days of beaches and melodies which were themselves nostalgic for those simpler days of beaches and young love. Light hearted and groovy and also lot of fun, this is definitely one of the best albums of the year.
