I did have a working knowledge from having played the original, but I needed more than just a refresher. Fans of the series are definitely going to get more than they bargained for with this expansion pack.

Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance is a welcome standalone expansion which adds a large set of features to the already great Supreme Commander.

Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance takes everything that was great about the original and makes it better; it also takes all of the issues with the original game and does some amount of work on them.

Don't expect much personality out of the narrative's characters, any memorable plot developments, or this game to hold your hand in any way, but you can be sure an excellent RTS experience lies underneath the faults.

Supreme Commander veterans will love the new challenges in Forged Alliance, but newbies should get their feet wet with the original game first.

This first expansion to "Supreme Commander" is an excellent add-on to an already outstanding game. [Dec 2007, p.155]

Forged Alliance is a perfect fit for SupCom fans, but new or eager RTS fans may find the game's difficulty a bit rough. Still, I highly recommend this and its standalone.

For I want people to play this game as I have played it. With my only history coming from its previous incarnation, I went in fresh with no reservations with the single exception that I was about to embark on an epic battle that would either break me or rekindle my love for a genre that has since been forgotten.

What's impressive is the amount of stuff that developer Gas Powered Games has managed to squeeze into the standalone expansion in relatively little time.

Of course, I think THQ and Gas Powered Games probably realized early on that their fan base has been dwindling, so this seems more to be an honest effort. It's damn good, but it's just not quite enough to rekindle interest in their game.

Supreme Commander manages to excel on so many fronts that other strategy games fell short of, with giant maps and a monetary system that makes sense and simplifies making an army.

Forged Alliance does a good job at being exactly what it is – a stand-alone expansion delivering an entirely new faction to the world of Supreme Commander, a decent single-player campaign playable from any of three human perspectives, and new experimental units for each faction, including four brand-new experimentals for the new faction.

The improvements to the interface, speed, etc. make this a superior game to the original without adding significant difficulties (which it already contained in spades). It doesn't make the game easier to learn, but if it's your cup of tea, consider this a bigger, nicer looking cup.

This standalone add-on brings a campaign that consists of six missions, each one taking many hours to complete as it develops from a simple task to epic struggle spanning over half the planet. It's a must for every gamer who values the strategic thinking over the tactical action AND is a fan of this game - the difficulty bar went way up, also, some changes are so subtle that only a true afficionado can appreciate their profound impact on the established patterns of deployment. In many ways, Forged Alliance is probably the game to pick up. An improved interface, a new race, and improved mechanics mean that it’s the better of the two titles (although playing as the original three races in skirmish and multiplayer require the original game).

Iippo gave it a10:
Absolutely the BEST RTS for multiplayer and skirmish. The campaign isnt bad, but thats not the real hook of this expansion. Just about all the vanilla SCs problems have been solved and rebalanced. Supreme!

Jim J. gave it a10:
Forged Alliance pretty much fixes all of my complaints about vanilla Supreme Commander. Pathfinding, sim speed, and visuals are vastly improved making it possible for my Pentium D to play a massive 4v4 at full sim speed although my graphic card is now lacking. The most important change in FA is the shift from SimCity style gameplay. Offense is the best defense in Forged Alliance; without initiative, victory is impossible. Mass fabricators are nerfed and mass extractors are now the primary source of mass, thus expansion and aggression is the only way to victory. Superweapons, with the exception of game ending artillery, are all cheaper and easier to produce, introducing a previously missing strategic option. Players now have the ability to build a strategic missile launcher without stalling the economy and unit production. There are far too many changes in FA to list completely but I can say with confidence that balance and gameplay are almost perfect.

Pete C. gave it a10:
One of the, maybe the best, strategy game ive ever played. The AI is fast and responsive. The scale and carnage is great. The balance between the 4 factions is perfect. I think the critics totally under-rated this game. I hope the next expansion adds alot more kick-ass content to an already kick-ass game.

Dominick M. gave it a7:
I like the changes, but continue to dislike the single player campaign. This is one of the few games that I can't complete single player for; not because its difficult, I'm a TA vet so SC is cake, but rather, its so god awfully dull. I'm just not interested enough to care. To put this in perspective, I'm a Hearts of Iron 2 player, and a huge fan of all strategy, both turn based and RTS. This is the first series whose single player truly just doesn't grip me. Multiplayer rocks though.

Novahawk gave it a10:
Simply amazing! If you're in the spirits to play games this holiday's season, 2 games should be mesmerizing your eyes. Supreme Commander: Forge Alliance and The Witcher. They both should be winners of 2007 awards. Both games should be 11 not 10.

Travis L. gave it a10:
Only adding more polish to the already innovative vision of the RTS. The controls are slick, the battles are huge, the options are impressive. The carnage is epic.

Allyourbases Arebelong2us gave it a9:
Forged Alliance is a good game. It's what SupCom should have been when it shipped. Look at the quick turn around time on it. Obviously, everything that wasn't finished in time for the original SupCom got pushed back and saved for the expansion. You shouldn't have to pay for what is essentially a decent patch. That all aside, Forged Alliance is a great game. Compared to the original, the pace is kicked up a notch- perhaps a little much. The A.I. is much quicker and nimbler, you'll find it heading directly for key choke spots around your bases.
