Perseus Mandate offers undeniable value for money. If you love first person shooters, you should really check it out.

Perseus Mandate needs to be the last installment in this tired franchise because the thrill is gone.

A container full of bloody FEAR jam. [Christmas 2007, p.92]

Jolt Online Gaming UK
Even the positive multiplayer aspect can’t be recommended because it is just nothing new. At around six hours to play through, and with only a moderately intriguing storyline to follow, this is about as thin as F.E.A.R.’s welcome will wear without breaking.

Perseus Mandate will probably feel pretty familiar to anyone that has played previous iterations in the series, but is a worthy title for someone new to the scene.

Unfortunately, the new enemies aren't that much different from the original ones, and the additional weapons don't add much to the game. Veteran players will have a persistent "been there, done that" feeling throughout the adventure, while newcomers may feel a little lost, since Perseus Mandate makes so many direct references to the previous games.

Despite the lackluster narrative and dated graphics, Perseus Mandate still delivers a lot of the fun of the previous games. It isn’t perfect, but it still manages to be a worthy addition to the F.E.A.R. franchise despite the story.

The main problem of Perseus Mandate is that follows the same pattern set by the previous two titles a bit too closely.

This standalone expansion to the respected fps released two years ago has all the telltale signs of a quick cash grab, and the time has left its marks on the engine. But turning the environment into swiss cheese among the sparks of ricochets hasn’t lost its appeal, and there is some new stuff to frighten the player and then his enemies with. [Dec 2007]

The game is enjoyable and has some great stand-out moments, but it’s very much a case of the more of the same here.

Overall this standalone is there to draw new blood to the gaming series, it's a shame that new blood wasn't considered for the actual game itself, the storyline seems incomplete and the graphics below par for this genre.

It brings nothing new and seems like an after thought to cash in on the F.E.A.R. name before Project Origin.

F.E.A.R. doesn't deliver this time around, the looks are fading and the sounds aren't at all new and fresh.

Game Almighty
The final part of the game, which I won’t give away here, should have been FULL of terrifying stuff hitting fans of every size and speed imaginable, and yet… nothing. More non-paranormal enemies. It is, quite simply, the most colossal anti-climax since Halo 2.

AceGamez
It's not a bad expansion because although it does little new, it's decently sized and repeats a lot of what made the original game such a hit two years ago, but a lack of any kind of polish to the old ideas of the series, let along bringing forth brand new ones, really does lessen the appeal that this expansion has - and I loved F.E.A.R.

We’ll make this easy. If you’re a fan of F.E.A.R. and have just been looking for more of the same firefights with a couple of new weapons and enemies, then you’re probably going to find Perseus Mandate fun. If you’re looking for something new or compelling and some flahy sound or visuals, don’t bother.

If you dig the F.E.A.R. universe and haven't quite gotten your fill of its particular style of clone-killing, office-trashing gameplay, then by all means, give it a go, just bear in mind that you're not likely to enjoy it as much as the original. But if you didn't particularly enjoy F.E.A.R., or are just looking for the best shooter out there, you're better of skipping it.

This game is badly made and overwhelmingly bleak, and while the original F.E.A.R. still exists, there's absolutely no way I could ever recommend anybody buy this, even if you're on fire and this game is a bucket of water. [Jan 2008, p.80]

Cox gave it a9:
I was happy with this game, it did seem to not be as well made as the other two games. The AI at times is laughable. The story how ever is the strongest in this game of the entire series. If you loved FEAR you will love this as well. If you have never played FEAR before, you probably should look elsewhere for a FPS.

Wingnut H. gave it an8:
More of the same, andI enjoyed it. As usual, "professional reviewers" are out of touch and paid to say specific things. Whenever I hear some talking about the "engine" being the problem, I know there is something wrong (these are the idiots who still say they play Half Life 1 all the time). Plain and simple, this is a nice shooter for the FEAR series. I still had fun, and still enjoyed the FEAR style gameplay. The latter half of the game had some really spooky weird guys in the floor too! Yes, the scenery looks similar (it is FEAR for goodness sake) but the abandoned subway/city is really cool (I wanted more of that). And the new assault rifle is pretty nice too. The new weapons are not earth shattering, but they are decent, especially the new assault rifle. As usual, reviews are all over the place. What do people want anyway. These are the same folks who said Crysis was amazing, and most of the customer reviews said quite the opposite. Oh well, never believe what you read on the internet I guess.

Tim D. gave it a9:
Nat a terrible game; just more of the same. grant you, if the AI was more advanced, it would be great, but w/e. If you like the first one but felt it was to short, then this is a great filler.

Marco P. gave it a6:
Very average game. Made for hardcore fans of F.E.A.R. franchise. There are some good ideas, especially at the end of the game but suddenly, everything is ridiculously left out like developpers was facing a dead end or out of imagination. The 3D engine is totally unfitted to hudge outdoor environments which look more than ever generic and recycled from previous F.E.A.R. Some textures still look good, others are terrible or ugly. Combats are as usual nice and sometimes funny but new weapons won't change the fact that the gameplay is repetitive and boring at the end. Bottom line : it's time for F.E.A.R to end this painful and still unexplained story. $29.95 is somewhere a total rip off for your wallet.
