What's nice is the character animations, the huge environments, and the overall ominous feel. Great sound effects add to the atmosphere.

It features excellent graphics (aside from the pits of green gunk) and an enjoyable, if somewhat predictable, story.

You might have to take some time to get adjusted to the sometimes touchy collision detection and the occasional frame rate drop, but these problems aren't drastic enough to completely mar an otherwise solid gaming experience.

Game Informer
Although the graphics are generally good, there is still something unappealingly sluggish about this game. [May 2002, p.85]
Its combination of tricks and pseudo-strategy is a bit underwhelming.

Hot Games
The objectives in the game go from too easy to patience-busting hard, and that's a shame, because if there was consistency in the objectives, the game could have headed in another direction.

[Its] controls slightly edge out those of "Tricky," with easier-to-pull-off stunts and a useful grind button. [May 2002, p.112]
It's certainly not bad, but several annoying points prevent it from being truly great.

Questionable control, average graphics, and shoddy the majority of respects it's a decent affair.

The story adds a little bit of flair to a solid control system and some good graphics.

Nintendo Power
The control felt floaty at first, but it made sense the more I played. Overall, I didn't want to stop playing. [Feb 2002, p.151]
Mildly enjoyable -- though the story seems more of a gimmick than anything else.

The game's shortness and lame graphics drag down a piece of merchandise that could have been terrific.

Completing the (sometimes difficult) challenges can be rewarding, but as it is this will probably only be of passing interest to Gamecube owners.

Play Magazine
While the GameCube version doesn't quite live up to the integrity of the Xbox game, it's impressive nevertheless. [May 2002, p.58]
Gaming Age
Dark Summit may add an element or two, but it doesn’t give enough to merit a sequel.

I liked it, especially how you can take an alternate route in some levels and keep going to previous levels, but the special tricks don't seem to always work.
