A solid game and with the inclusion of such a brilliant multiplayer bomb-off, it's an important and satisfying chapter of the Bomberman saga. [Jan 2008, p.85]

In the end it's a good thing that Bomberman has both stuck with what he knows - blowing up enemies on grid-based battles - while also stretching his legs into the RPG environment, getting involved in a game that will keep gamers occupied for a considerable time, with all the unlockables and the Wi-fi play, effectively giving you two games for the price of one - it's just a shame that the Story mode features plenty of tedium between the flashes of inspiration.

Ultimately, this game offers the best Battle mode yet, even just slightly pipping Bomberman Land with its variety of power-ups and stages. As such, if all you want is a top Bomberman battle, and you're either an RPG fan, or not actually bothered about the single-player Story mode, then this is definitely worth a look.

As retro multiplayers go this is lovely, but the single-player lacks bite. [Jan 2008, p.76]

For all its excellence, you're getting the same experience here as you are in the previously released mini-game fest Bomberman Land Touch!, its upcoming sequel or the countless other Bomberman games they'll probably be releasing in the coming years. With that in mind, what bland single-player supplement you want to accompany the multiplayer goodness is entirely up to you.
