Episode Recap: "August Walden"

Episode Recap by Dave Anderson
That ending was a real bang, wasn't it? Oh, Julia. If you're going to buy a gun for self-protection, protect yourself by hiding it from others. All Eden the skank needed to do was find that damn gun in Julia's bedroom. I knew that as soon as Julia told Eden that she figured everything out — that Eden was the one who was the cause of her mysterious illness —... read full recap

That ending was a real bang, wasn't it? Oh, Julia. If you're going to buy a gun for self-protection, protect yourself by hiding it from others. All Eden the skank needed to do was find that damn gun in Julia's bedroom. I knew that as soon as Julia told Eden that she figured everything out — that Eden was the one who was the cause of her mysterious illness — Eden wasn't going to react in a good way. How about the timing of Julia receiving her follicle lab results that clearly included words like "exposure to high dosages of mercury" and "contaminated foods" at the exact same time that Eden was serving her yet another piece of fruitcake? Bingo! Julia: "I'll take it to my room." Julia's inner thought: "I'll send it to the lab in Virginia." Olivia sure was an understanding lover earlier, sending Julia's hair sample to the lab, even after Julia told her she was having an affair with Christian. I was expecting a different reaction. There was Olivia, all happy and peppy and... read more

Q: I've got to agree with the recent e-mail that Nip/Tuck has become (frustratingly) fascinating. Because I invested in these characters for the good years (what were those, Seasons 1 through 4?), I find it hard to pull away even though I'm more often than not bored with how repetitive their antics have become. The whole Eden storyline has not only been tedious, it's been confusing ? how does a supposed high school student have the time to leave her boarding school to mess with Sean's ... read more

Q: Had to write. I so agree with you about Nip/Tuck, and I liked it so much the first couple of seasons! There were some really great episodes. But the writers seem to have gotten the same bizarre disease as the writers of Rescue Me; everything's just crazy as can be and so off the wall as to be repulsive. What happened to all the good storylines that carried over from episode to episode? I would be disgusted if I was an actor on that show. What a waste. And concerning the most recent comments . read more

  • Episode Recap: "Lulu Grandiron" | Nip/Tuck Show Blog | 2/6/2008
As I've been quite verbal about in the past, I was a huge Knots Landing fan. So after reading about this episode and then seeing the coming attractions last week, I was, needless to say, excited. I mean, how could I not be? Donna Mills was portraying a rich Beverly Hills socialite named Lulu Grandiron and she and her friends married wealthy high-powered execs, "divorced them and then took all their money." And adding to a true Knots fan's delight, one of those friends (Annette) was played by Joan Van Ark. All they needed was Michele Lee and it would've been more of a complete set. But I'm thinking that Michele was asked but declined since the four rich women were all plastic surgery fanatics and maybe Michele didn't want to admit she's had work done? Those two other roles were filled by women who co-starred on other prime-time soaps in the '80s: Shari Belafonte (she's dropped the "Harper") from Hotel played Catherine in the really bad wig and Deborah Shelton from Dallas was Marla... read more

Premise: A pungent plastic-surgery drama that deftly keeps its humanity amid some graphic operation scenes that aren't for the squeamish. FX's surprise hit cuts both ways. It smoothly mixes searing drama and mordant humor as it dissects the conflicts between two physicians who are partners in a Florida practice: the skirt-chasing, morality-challenged Christian Troy, and the more straitlaced, idealistic Sean McNamara.
