Episode Recap: The Economist

Episode Recap by Trish Wethman
Happy Valentine’s Day, Lost fans! Instead of chocolates or flowers, our gift tonight was the revelation that Sayid is one of the Oceanic Six. No big surprise there—the guy is nothing if not a survivalist. And even his post-island career choice ("headhunter," a.k.a hired assassin) was not all that shocking since his dubious personal code of morality is... read full recap

  • Lost Newbie to Kristen Bell: "Thanks for Turning Down Charlotte!" | Ausiello Report | 2/15/2008 New
Confession time: I wasn't expecting to like Rebecca Mader on Lost. Not because I think she's a bad actress or anything. She was good on Justice. It's just that, well, the role of Charlotte was originally earmarked for my beloved Kristen Bell, and the thought of anyone else playing the part just felt wrong. But three episodes into Lost's new season, I have to say, Mader is winning me over. It probably helps that the 28-year-old Brit is incredibly likable off-screen, due in large part to a wicked sense of humor that was on full display when we chatted earlier this week about her new day job, her hopes for a Charlotte-Sawyer lovefest and why she feels the urge to knock on Kristen Bell's door and start singing. When do you have to report back on set?Rebecca Mader: I have a feeling we'll be going back into production in about a month. But no one's called me yet. What have you done during your downtime?Mader: I moved. I got a new apartment. I went home to London and spent time with my... read more
  • Cheers: Lost's New Magic Number — Four | Cheers & Jeers | 2/15/2008 New
Cheers to Lost for finding a quartet of stellar talents to play the "rescuers" — aka "a headcase, a ghostbuster, an anthropologist and a drunk." Jeremy Davies (Faraday) has brought his off-kilter charisma to everything from Saving Private Ryan to Helter Skelter. Ken Leung (Miles) oozed magnetic hostility as Uncle Junior's roomie in The Sopranos and a Chinese army interrogator in HBO's too-little-seen movie Strip Search. Stunning Brit Rebecca Mader (Charlotte) was one of the best things about Fox's unjustly overlooked Justice. And Jeff Fahey (Lapidus) has been a personal fave since the underrated '90s drama The Marshal. They're all stronger actors than, say, Michelle Rodriguez, Rodrigo Santoro, Maggie Grace and Ian Somerhalder. I just hope they last longer. read more

Happy Valentine’s Day, Lost fans! Instead of chocolates or flowers, our gift tonight was the revelation that Sayid is one of the Oceanic Six. No big surprise there—the guy is nothing if not a survivalist. And even his post-island career choice ("headhunter," a.k.a hired assassin) was not all that shocking since his dubious personal code of morality is well-covered territory. But the revelation that his future boss is none other than Benjamin Linus? Well, that was quite something. I found it especially interesting since earlier in the episode he declared that the day he trusts Ben is the “the day I would have sold my soul.” What has happened to change Sayid’s mind? Or did he? Another episode, another pile of questions to sort through. I don’t know about all of you, but I actually had a tough time keeping up with all the action tonight. I am so glad that ABC is running the "enhanced version" of the previous week's episode right before the new one. For... read more
  • Best Valentines Day Videos | Today's Top Videos | 2/14/2008 New
ABC’s Hottest Smooch SessionsIn honor of the all the love in the air on this fine Valentine’s Day, ABC found it fitting to whip up a little montage of some of the sexiest kissing scenes (and sometimes a tad more) to get everyone in the spirit. And don’t worry, they've covered almost every show they have, complete with the Sawyer-Kate cage hook-up and the infamous Gizzy romp in the sheets. This video can be summed up best as face-sucking at its finest. Watch it now! | More online videosHas Valentine's Day Become a Secular Orgy?Contrary to popular belief, Valentine’s Day wasn’t created for the sole purpose of making single people cry. Daily Show correspondent, Nate Corddry delved into the world of chocolate thongs, greeting cards and lingerie to figure out how February 14th has gone from a day of revering the martyrdom of St. Valentine, to displays of sexual perversion. Best Break-Up…Ever!Normally you would think that breaking up with someone on V-Day... read more
  • Lost's Jorge Garcia Discusses the Joy of (Oceanic) Six | TV Guide Interviews & Features | 2/14/2008
In Lost's Season 3 finale, we learned that both Jack and Kate make it off the island (and that one of them grew a horrific beard). Then, in this season's premiere, Hurley was found to be alive and (kinda) well in the future, himself also a member of the "Oceanic Six." TVGuide.com spoke with Jorge Garcia about his good fortune to be among Lost's living. TVGuide.com: After the season premiere, in every forum available to me, I was saying that you did your best Lost work in that episode.Jorge ... read more

Premise: A breakout hit that reworks `Survivor' into addictive drama about stranded plane-crash survivors on a Pacific isle. These disparate, resilient souls are bedeviled by flashbacks to their pasts; ever-changing group dynamics; and a monstrous predator. Co-created by J.J. Abrams (`Alias') and filmed in Hawaii.
