You get to blow up lots of stuff. But we mean that in a good way. Cleverly drop bombs to blast through walls and eradicate enemies in this explosive arcade-style action game. Bomberman is part of the NES Classic Series, or "Famicom Mini Series", of specially priced legendary games. [Nintendo]

It's hard to explain the addictiveness that sets in after a few levels, but it's safe to say that it's head and shoulders above the likes of "Donkey Kong" and "Ice Climber."

While not as advanced or socially oriented as the recent Bomberman releases, players will find the original Bomberman pleasantly and subversively enjoyable. [Sept 2004, p.93]

Armchair Empire
My other issue is that Bomberman wasn't that great a game to start with and there's no multiplayer, which is sure to cause some gamers to scratch their heads.

GameCube Advanced
The Classic NES version of Bomberman is a great game. If you can adjust to living with single player you will have a very different, but enjoyable adventure.

Pocket Games
The single-player portion of Bomberman is a lot of fun, with varied stages and plenty of fast, hectic action. Unfortunately, this version is devoid of any sort of online play. The end result is a mixed bag. [Summer 2004, p.15]

The added battery save is also much appreciated. [Aug 2004, p.61]

A classic game that didn't age as well as we had hoped, Bomberman is a must-have game for those who know they must have it.

It certainly holds up better than certain other Mini titles, which shall of course remain nameless. Provided you can get past the fact that multiplayer is but a fleeting dream, the solo experience isn't bad at all.

Nintendo Power
The game is very simple but provides quite a challenge and tons of explosive fun. [July 2004, p.120]

IGN
This game just isn't as timeless and classic as the rest of the reissues in the Famicom Mini series, and will probably not see nearly as much play as the other titles if you've scored the entire lot.

A Bomberman game without multiplayer is hardly a Bomberman game at all.

Releasing an older, inferior version of Bomberman on the GBA when there are already plenty of great, newer version available surely must be an indication of madness.

Thunderbolt
The original Bomberman just wasn't a very good game back in 1987, and bringing it back unaltered as a “classic” doesn't change that simple fact.

Word of warning to anyone considering picking this up. There is no multiplayer in the original game. That should be enough to let you know this probably isn’t the game for you.

Gaming Age
Without a multiplayer mode and so many better versions of the game currently available on the GBA, like "Bomberman Tournament," this game really isn't worth $20.
