Will he get 12 points?

Dustin The Turkey invades Spanish press!

Dustin the Turkey has, surprisingly, made headlines in the Spanish news and media. Spanish newspaper ABC runs an article on the puppet's quest to represent its native country, Ireland, at the Eurovision Song Contest. He will be competing in the Irish Eurovision national final which is scheduled to be held on the 23rd of February with the song 'Irelande Douze Points. The puppet will be competing with 5 other candidates in their quest to represent the Emerald Isle in Serbia!

Dustin The Turkey has already gained massive  press and media coverage both in Ireland and overseas, ever since RTE announced that he was among the 6 finalists at the Irish Eurovision national final. The Spanish newspaper  ABC reports about the puppet's quest to represent Ireland in Belgrade next May at the Eurovision Song Contest, something which is extremely rare. Dustin is already making headlines around Europe eventhough he hasn't won the golden ticket to represent Ireland  yet. What  is yet to be seen is what would happen if he wins the Irish national final  Eurosong 2008 and gets to represent Ireland?

kris@ i dont contradict my friend, i don't find your question sensible. your right about not understanding each other because everytime im trying to point countries should come up with serious work but you seem to accept funny acts like this, how can we understand if one wants to have proper show and looking for joke.

you contradict yourself all the time my friend.... just leave it, we will never understand each others.

Mehmet, if you like your country so much, if you are so proud of your country, why do you live in London ? To vote for it ???? You guys make me laugh..... You are right in what you say that sometimes in the past you were undervalued, but not very often my friend.

when it comes to ireland, I usually like this country, as it took so serious like some others, but this years entry if its dustin, if they are gonna join the fools path on purpose then im gonna have to say go ahead and make life easier on other countries to get more points. Not nice to see countries acting childish and foolish, so silly. it should always stay serious this contest and send proper songs. I really love music and love to see get appreciated, and shown some effort.

surrey guy@ your a poor thing then not taking serious, you have no respect for music, cant be bothered to deal with you mate, if your not serious with it at all, why you on here then if u take it as a joke lol.

Simon evans@ I absulately feel safe with Turkey's entries your right, I have always liked most entries Turkey sent since it joined, there are so many great songs that Turkey didn't even get what they deserved, jury times, so im more than happy now luck has turned to Turkey, televote is more tasty than juries, ofcourse juries will make better decisons but only if they just professionals and not political. From what i see, it was just all about politics. Millions love the songs, famous artists are still singing those songs and juries ye lets give some points so they dont get attack on us, thats rubbish and not fair. So now its opposite and we manage to get our real place on board and will continue like that, and I trust to see more victories from Turkey.
You know when it comes to voting Im so happy that we get those 12 points from countries, because Turkey deserves, especially votes from west, like Belgium (kris fruyt :)), netherlands, germany, france, austria, Uk (im glad it gave 12 to kenan), etc it increases each year YAY and loads from east so happy :) :) :) :)
kris fruyt@ No one can block Turkey's way, it's gonna go to finals, without your votes, after get all your votes lol and show you who will be at the top again hahahaha. Im so proud of my beautiful country, such an amazing and full interests and more lol. Turkey moves on and improves too fast, makes me feel very glad about it.

I agree with Kris, the diaspora votes are getting ridiculous. I also find it had to believe that everyone is shooting Dustin down when they haven't even heard the song yet. And no, I'm not Irish, I just happen to agree with the idea. It couldn't be ny worse than the Estonian entry, in any case.

I 100% agree with Ennis O'Leary.

We known where the 8, 10, 12 points are going before the voting!

@Simon

But there is just the fun this year my friend, as my Country (Belgium) together with the Netherlands and Germany are in a different semi to Turkey. Turkey will start this year with at least 30 points less start evapital and we love it.......

@Adjin

Check your records my friend. Countries like Belgium are NOT cheating but it's the amount of immigrants lieving in my country, who are cheating by phoning 50 times each for their home country. That's a difference no. So do not call my country a cheat. We are eeven ashamed gieving our points... It's sad

The Balkan on the other side only seems to evote for each others....

So well done Ireland, as you may know you already had a big spot in our hearts, and we will show it in Mai.... Dustin we support you all the way. Stop this voting system killing our beloeved contest. Solution 50 % teleevote, 1 evote per phone, 50 % jury's

@ajdin

I don't agree. its particularly bad with the ex-Yu, Baltic, & Russian bloc. They've taken over where Greece/Cyprus left off!! Add to this the diaspora votes and now you know why Ireland will send a plastic bird! If you want to have a rule of "No more stupid entries", we need to disqualify countries engaging in stupid neighbourly cheat voting first.

ajdin mehic [44150]

@Ennis O'Leary

Every country is cheating in voting.
Spain, Andorra, France, Belgium...Every SINGLE country!

So, you cant just say EX Yu countries are cheating, can you?

Ennis O'Leary [44877]
Wed 13 Feb 2008 00:08:19

@ajdin mehic

I think James S. said it was a "serious" entry not a "good" one. UK didnt vote for it cos they generally dont go in for "cheat" voting as you do in ex-yugo!!!

Mario Mir [44111]

@ ajdin

Sorry, but there were many freak acts before Austria 2003. Remember Dschingis Khan (1979), Kojo (1982), Baby Doll (1991) or the absolute dadaist performance of Pas de Deux (1983), an many others I don't want to remember.
The difference between those acts and the present ones is that before the televoting era, almost all of them fell to the bottom of the scores, and now is the opposite.

@James S

If Irish 2007 song was good, why UK didnt vote for it?

Let the Turkey go to Eurovision!!! Does't happen every year! and for all those that say stop sending those crappy songs!! i say "why not?" Long are the days gone when it was about the seriousness of the song, and quality!!!! Since the 70's there have been novelty songs, and it still continues today!!! it doesnt ruin the Eurovision in fact it's one reason as to why these nations send them!! it breaks the mould of your traditional Eurovision song, and gets that country noticed!!!! In the volatile Eurovision world where diapora, political, neighbourly voting will ensure not always the right song wins, this is one way for a nation to keep interest in the Eurovision, and have a chance in keeping its head above those shallow waters! After all, in several of the traditional Eurovision nations, the interest in the competition tends to be decreasing (ie Norway figures from Last year semi final and final!)! I say go Dustin to Serbia! i'll vote for you!!!!! Long may Ireland be at the contest!!!

James S [22775]

Well said Ennis! If eastern europe can blindly vote for neighbours/former adversaries - why shouldn't Western countries have some fun with their entries. Ireland came last in 07 with a 'serious' entry so if we're gonna come last again why shouldn't it be with a 'fun' song?? Dustin has also had a couple of no 1 albums including 'Bling when you're mingin'

Plus it's been a long time since since a 'song' in the Irish heats let alone an Irish entry has caused such controversy - GO DUSTIN!

Ennis O'Leary [44877]
Tue 12 Feb 2008 22:48:47

this year is probably our last entry into the Eurotrash Comedy Show, and if it causes uproar - so be it!! This stopped being a competition with all the cheat voting and stopped being about songs after that Ruslana joke entry. If Dana international can win dressed as a parrot, why can't we have a turkey? Go Dustin - lets cause carnage!!!

EUROVISION should make some rule..something like this:
"You cant send crapy, cheap and silly songs on Eurovision."

Im saying this seriously!
Eurovision is becoming crap after AUSTRIA 2003. After them silly songs were sent by SWITZERLAND 2004, POLAND 2005, MOLDOVA 2005, ICELAND 2006, LITHUANIA 2006, CROATIA 2006, UKRAINE 2007, FRANCE 2007, UK 2007...

Please stop this. Why dont we make a petition about "NOT SENDING STUPID SONGS ON EUROVISION"?
Cant you see that Eurovision is destroying it self more and more every year?

This is eurovision SONG contest and it has to be that!

---Sorry on my english..But im sure you understood me... ;)

@ Pau

I agree. The news are really out of reality. ABC is maybe the sixth newspaper in Spain after El Pais, El Mundo, El Periodico, La Vanguardia and others. That's NOT rocking the Spanish media!

Terry Wogan has been talking about him on the radio recently and Terry spoke of the Scotland headlines about esc!!

Simon Evans [25827]
Tue 12 Feb 2008 21:23:19

Mehmet,

You're on safe ground saying that Turkey will get plenty of votes. It might be because they send a good song (For real, Every way that I can, Besinci mevsim) or because they send turgid shite (Shake it up Sekerim). It matters not - 36 points are virtually guaranteed (from Germany, Netherlands, Belgium), whether the Turkish entry is excellent, mediocre, poor or three minutes' worth of farting.

This is so stupid...well it showes the way eurovision is going. Quite sad actually............if this stupidiness wins ESC maybe it'll be a guest at Muppet show instead of Parkinson.

How does anyone know that Dustin's entry might not be a very serious song, possibly a power ballad with ingenious lyrics and a rousing finish?

My apologies if the song is already available to listen to and is some monotonous random crappy drivel.

Florian G. [38797]
Tue 12 Feb 2008 19:10:02

Okay, if this wins, Estonia isn't the worst entry anymore, something which i thought was completely impossible... no, this cant win, no, no, no! Destiny cannot be that mean to Eurovision, can it?
