All countries that didn't make it to the top-10 of last year's final will have to participate in the semifinal again. Austria, originally one of the semifinal's participants, decided to withdraw. Georgia and Armenia might join the list as new participants.

Eurovision Song Contest 2006
The 51st Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Athens, which is the political, cultural and economic capital of Greece. Thanks to Helena Paparizou and her song My number one, the Greek broadcaster ERT will host the contest, for the first time. The semifinal is scheduled for 18th May, the final for 20th May.
