Eurovision Song Contest 1959

Domenico Modugno, who had a major hit last year with his Eurovision entry, now entered the contest again and reached a sixth place. But again, his song Piove became a big hit particularly in Europe. The new participating country Monaco ended up with only one point. The United Kingdom returned to the contest while Luxembourg backed out for one year, making the number of participants in this contest 11. The Netherlands won for the second time.
