There are numerous ways to get involved in the Wichita community. Take just a little time to be a volunteer, big brother or sister; offer help to families in times of need; help visitors find their way; and serve meals for the homeless. This is only a small sample of the possibilities that exist in the Wichita community. Take some time and get involved!

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sedgwick County is the largest mentoring organization of its kind in the nation. Since 1978, BBBS of Sedgwick County has served thousands of youth in the community.

PRoKansas Miller Recycling Center
This site is for a not-for-profit recycling group called Plastics Recycling of Kansas, Inc. We are a 501(c)(3) organization operating the ProKansas Miller Recycling Center at 725 E. Clark. For the past 3 years, we have been using a building owned by the City of Wichita. This year, we will take in and process 1.6 million pounds of recyclables in 16 different categories.

Wichita Area Boy Scouts

Part of the Quivira Council, a group of some 500 scouting units scattered across 19 counties in south central Kansas. These scouting troops serve some 15,000 boys through the active participation of approximately 5,000 adult volunteers.

The Wichita Children's Home has served the needs of the community's children for over 100 years, first as an orphanage, and today, as a temporary, emergency shelter for children in crisis.

Wichita: Supporting the Arts
The focus of this campaign, Supporting the Arts, is to raise awareness of the non-profit art organizations in Wichita and encourage volunteerism, participation and the giving of donations. Currently, we support the efforts of 21 art organizations, including; Music Theatre of Wichita, Wichita Symphony Orchestra, Wichita: Botanica Gardens, Wichita Art Museum and many others.

American Red Cross - Midway Kansas Chapter

The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers, that provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. It does this through services that are consistent with its congressional charter and the fundamental principles of the International Red Cross movement.

Animal Shelter

Stray animals are picked up and taken to the animal shelter where they are to be held for 3 days for the owner to reclaim them. After the 3-day period, the animals are either euthansized or put up for adoption.

Cerebral Palsy Research Foundation Inc.

CPRF serves people with disabilities throughout the country, ranging in age from newborns to over 65. While 40 percent of the persons served by CPFR have cerebral palsy, they also serve clients with disabilities such as spina bifida, multiple sclerosis, mental retardation, head injuries, spinal cord injuries, back injuries, hearing impairment and stroke.

For over 25 years, our organization has been providing affordable housing options for the low-income and elderly residents of Wichita, Kansas. When government funding dried up for social programs, Urban Ministry answered the call. Since 1981, UMUM has been involved in providing services directly to the homeless and poor in Wichita and an eight county area.

United Way 2-1-1 Kansas Online
Locate hundreds of services such as literacy tutoring, family counseling, food pantries, job training and more. 2-1-1 Kansas Online, a service of United Way of the Plains, lists more than 800 programs offered by 265 agencies in south central Kansas.

Wichita Area Sexual Assault Center

The Wichita Area Sexual Assault Center (WASAC) offers crisis intervention, support, information and referrals. Direct services to victims and their family and friends are free and confidential. WASAC is a non-reporting agency except in the case of offenders and minors.
