Total sales: 411,307 (down 88,514 from last week)
Last week's sales: 499,821
Notes: With no major new releases and weaker-than-usual
Animal Crossing sales this week, the original
Brain Training came in at #2, below its sequel, of course. Pretty amazing when you consider the fact that it's been out for almost a year. As for
AC, even though its sales were lower than usual, it's still on pace to pass 2.5 million all-time sales if it sells about the same next week.
New releases of note this week include a new
Stafi platformer from Nintendo and a new
Guilty Gear fighter from Sammy.
Next week should be interesting, as we'll get the first figures for
Tetris DS and
Mother 3, among others.

Aren't Sony systems pretty much the only systems you can get 2D fighters on these days?

If it does, it'll be on the X-Box for Live support except....oh hey look, the 360 doesn't support 2D fighters so it'll be on the 360 except...oh hey look, they don't need to spend that much putting it on the system. They could do a PS2 port but oh hey look, Sony hates 2D fighters.
So yeah, it's not coming here. You can import it for $49.99 at play-asia though. If you never played Reload, it's extremely good and Order Sol's a fun character.
Mother 3 is amazing. Within 10 minutes, I had dashed into a dinosaur and knocked it over, fought a cockroach and then saved via a frog.

Mother 3's been the most wanted game according to Famitsu readers, so I think it will do well....

"I wonder how Mother 3 will sell. I've got a lot of stock in that game!"
You own stock in APE software? :P
I frankly don't think at the moment there is any good third party software being released for the DS. No big deal, these dips happen with every system, especially with nintendo, who banks on first party support more than anyone else.
It looks like (I'm just guessing here, no knowledge of japanese releases for the next few months), and this dip won't end until fall. The spring VG buying season will be coming to a close in a little under 2 months or so, so it's just gonna be slow for a while.
But then..fall will pick up and be awesome, like it always is.

The Brain Training phenomenon is quite surprising. It shows that there are still people who are getting introduced to the game, and more and more new people are buying the game. But indeed, where are the third party DS games? Is Nintendo's success starting to hurt other DS games?

Because no good ones have been released recently. Next one we'll see is probably that fourth Naruto game for Nintendo handhelds.

Strange...
Why aren't there any 3rd party DS games on the chart?
Do they all suck that much?

ninx,
Densetsu no Stafi is a Japan-only series of platforming games, the first 3 of which appeared on the GBA. The main character is a starfish named Stafi. They're kind of similar to Kirby games actually. I played 2 and 3, both excellent games, and I have 1 but haven't gotten around to playing it yet. (Looks like I'm going to have to import 4 soon too.)

Seriously! You'd think everyone would have a Brain Training by now. Maybe they're buying second copies so they can train twice as hard.

Japan is just getting Tetris DS, didn't know.
Either way, Brain training continues to be a phenom, amazing.
It's like Brain training is the new PS2 of japan, it just keeps on selling
