The City of Brandenburg, the county seat of Meade County, is located on the Ohio River, and the downtown area is the only one in Kentucky to have a Main Street that leads directly to the River. Brandenburg is located 46 miles southwest of Louisville, Kentucky, and just 17 miles south of Corydon, Indiana. Descendents of families that settled the area still live in Brandenburg and the surrounding county of Meade. The estimated population of Brandenburg in 1994 was 3,000 people.

The historic downtown area, located in a fold of land between two high cliffs, hosted General John Hunt Morgan and his troops as they crossed the Ohio River into Indiana in 1863. The home where Morgan watched the troop crossing stands proudly overlooking the Ohio; although almost completely destroyed by the 1974 tornado that devastated Meade County, it was rebuilt to its original state and is now a private home.

The Brandenburg main shopping area is located on the By-Pass Road at River Ridge Shopping Center. A developing Industrial Park is located adjacent to this area.
