Overview
This data set contains monthly and annual data for imports and exports of live cattle, hogs, sheep, and goats, as well as beef and veal, pork, lamb and mutton, chicken meat, turkey meat, and eggs. The tables report physical quantities, not dollar values or unit prices. Data on beef and veal, pork, and lamb and mutton are on a carcass-weight-equivalent basis. Breakdowns by country are included.
The data are based on U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau
of the Census data. For beef, lamb, mutton, and pork,
ERS converts the quantity data from a product-weight
basis to a carcass-weight-equivalent basis. For details
on data
sources, product descriptions, carcass-weight conversions,
and regional country groupings, see the Documentation.
Current Trade Data
The new automated system contains revisions to the calculations for beef and pork trade. Data are available for 2002-07.
See Trade Tables Undergo Major Revision for an explanation of our new automated process.

Data Updates
Official U.S. trade statistics are
released
monthly by the Census Bureau. ERS usually publishes
the monthly livestock and meat trade tables on the first
business day after the Census data are released. See the
2008
release calendar for specific dates.
Annual Data Revisions
Each year the Census Bureau, Foreign Trade Division releases a 13th-month file approximately 3 months after the December release of data. The 13th-month file includes corrections (errata) made at the request of outside sources and verified with exporters or importers by the Foreign Trade Division. It also includes late shipments (Shippers Export Declarations or Import Entry Summary Forms that are received too late to be included in the normal monthly trade release). These data will be incorporated into the monthly and annual tables when the revisions become available.
