all the dwarflings that Rollo was a blasphemer and should be
"sacrificed." Brian thought better of the idea due to
the power of the Order; Azrael went to save him. He and Lilhy go
to him and escaped the pack of dwarflings. Rollo led them to the
Order's secret weapon - the Soul of the Mother of St. Dumas - a
gaseous super weapon. |

Azrael was able to
use electricity to combat the weapon. Part of it dissipated,
part of it changed form and began falling downward through the
castle. Rollo's servants killed all of the attacking dwarflings,
but Azrael arrived in time to save Nomoz. He killed all of
Rollo's warriors. The "soul" fell through the castle's
foundation, toppling the ancient home of the Order of St. Dumas.
Nomoz, Lilhy, Brian, and Azrael appeared to be the only
survivors. |

Arkham Asylum. When the fire alarms were set off, all the cells
opened. He was attacked by the inmates and defeated by
"Charles," a mutation created by the Order. Joker took

to escape with Azrael if Charles could come with them. He was
shot by the SWAT team during the escape, but Charles made it on
to the helicopter. After landing, Azrael defeated him and

who appeared to have a new boyfriend. Talia approached him and
she was kidnapped by ninjas. Oracle got word to Batman that he
was going after her. Bimmu, a huge man (or close) had her and
prepared to kill Azrael. |

Bimmu was a ruse.
Ra's al Ghul captured Azrael. He courted the Batman's former
successor as a possible son-in-law, but discovered traces of
animal genes in a blood sample he'd taken. Talia allowed him to
escape after her father ordered him killed; Jean Paul returned
home. |

Azrael returned to
the Batcave offering Batman his assistance. He was reminded that
Robin was the Batman's only partner. Alfred suggested that he
check out a reported vampire south of the city. Azrael found the
man who "fancied" himself as a vampire and destroyed
him with sunlight. Having nowhere to call home, Jean Paul
decided to stay there a while. |

Azrael began
investigating the vampire and how it came into existence. He was
attacked by a werewolf made by the same scientist who'd created
the vampire. Azrael found the werewolf again the next night and
was shot by its creators. |

Azrael took over
Jean Paul more completely and defeated the werewolf. He went in
after the scientists, but one doused the other in their serum
which created the user into a vision of what they wanted to be.
The scientist changed into an octopus beast. Azrael, longing to
be a real angel, was also hit with a small dosage. He appealed
to the monster's good side unsuccessfully; he was forced to use
violence to take down the pair. |

After consecutive
nights facing vampires, werewolves, and a giant octopus, Azrael
was assaulted by a parademon. He tried to avoid the creature by
hopping on a Gotham-bound train. In one of the cars, Jean Paul
met a boy who was on his way to find his father. They found him,
but he didn't want his son. Jean Paul promised to find the boy a
home. The parademon saw Azrael's compassion and vanished. |

Jean Paul visited
Willy (the boy from the train) in the hospital. They needed
medical information on him, so Azrael set out to bring his
father in. He tracked the man to the Mojave Desert, where he
teamed up with Tony Monaghan, the Hitman. They took down some
criminals together, and Jean Paul left with Willy's
father. |

Azrael screwed up
again, leaving two policemen in the hospital. He pleaded with
Batman to forgive him. Batman gave him a new case: Bane had been
sighted. Jean Paul returned home to find Lilhy in his apartment.
She'd decided that they should be together and asked him to run
off to Mexico with her. He fought the decision to go after Bane
or leave with Lilhy. |
