Environmental & Occupational Disease Epidemiology (EODE)
The environments in which New Yorkers live, learn, work and play are an important part of being healthy. Environmental contaminants and physical hazards, both man-made and natural, can contribute to or cause disease and affect childhood development.
The Environmental and Occupational Disease Epidemiology (EODE) program works to promote environmental and workplace health and safety through:
- Epidemiologic investigation,
- Surveillance,
- Enforcement,
- Public education, and
- Risk assessment of the health effects of occupational and environmental exposures.
EODE also participates in the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's emergency response, assessing health and safety risks and providing information to the public.
