The gubernatorial race matches Democratic incumbent Ed Rendell against former Pittsburgh Steeler Republican Lynn Swann. All four of the politicians were on hand and gave their best stand-up routine. While the candidates gave it their all, Governor Rendell was the most humorous.

Academy Award-nominated filmmaker John A. Davis (Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius) was in town Thursday for an interview with The Evening Bulletin at the Four Seasons to promote his upcoming film, The Ant Bully. The film's producers include Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman (The Polar Express). |
For nearly four decades, Bruce Murray's work with The Ledger, and, later, The Evening Bulletin earned him recognition as one of the best in his field. In the years between the two World Wars, he photographed hundreds of stirring events and famous figures. Nicknamed "The Old Master," Murray won numerous awards for his photographs. His subjects varied from presidents and generals, to children and flappers, as well as judges and composers, to landscapes and everyday people.

Major kudos to John DeBella and the staff of WMGK 102.9 for this free concert and to Foreigner for the magnificent performance for the adoring crowd. The concert was organized well, and the security was excellent. Fireworks followed over Cooper River, and the fans went home completely drained and totally satisfied.

Heart disease is the No. 1 cause of death of women (and of men too). One out of two women are likely to die eventually from heart disease. Cardiovascular disease claims approximately 500,000 women's lives a year. However, the good news is that, heart disease is often preventable, and that message was delivered powerfully at the luncheon. |

Bill Hankowsky is the chairman, president and CEO of Liberty Property Trust, where he has worked since 2001. Prior to Liberty, he served for 11 years as president of the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC), where he oversaw the city's economic development agency. PIDC managed 11 industrial parks, operated 20 loan programs and coordinated major projects. |

The night began with a cocktail party at the Ritz Carlton which is located a short block from the PMT. After the drinks the crowd skipped over to the Prince and was welcomed by a 17-piece orchestra that played not only for the guests, but also for city dwellers. Smartly, the city had Chestnut Street blocked off between Broad and 15th sts.

At the press conference were Mayor John Street, Robert Bogle (president of the Philadelphia Tribune) members of the board of the Union League, and also the board of the Abraham Lincoln Foundation. Philadelphia City Councilman James Kenney was one of the initial persons behind the effort and was also present. "O.V. Catto deserves a place of public honor and recognition as one of Philadelphia's truly great citizens. I am proud to be a part of this effort to give long overdue recognition to this great man," Councilman Kenney said.
