Opera Mini direct download links
Well, since alot of your have been asking for links to older versions of Opera Mini, I decided to compile a list of them. I included links to both the advance and basic version of Opera mini with direct links to the jar, jad and zip files. All the files listed are for the international version of Opera mini. To download Opera Mini for your language, change the int bit to your locale code such as us, ru, ect.
Most older phones require you to use the Jad file to download a Java application while some newer phones allow you to download the Jar directly. The zip files are for the -smart- phones, which include Blackberries, PDAs and so on.

Renaming Java Applications Tutorial:-Well, since alot of people have been asking for a way to install both Opera Mini 4 and Opera Mini 3.1 and such without installing over each other. I decided to write up a little tutorial to explain how to modify the application to change the name it installs as.
Note: For the Opera Mini moderators, if this information is against the EULA or against the rules, please feel free to delete it.
What you will need:A program to open/extract/archive Zip files. Jar files are simply zip files with the Jar extension.
Instructions:With the program, extract or open the Jar file of your choice. Now inside the Jar file should be a folder called
meta-inf. Inside this folder is a file named
manifest.mf.
-This file is a Java manifest file that stores information about the Java midlet. Its an plain text ASCII file so it can be opened with any text editor.
Now open the manifest file and locate the line that begins with
MIDlet-Name:Simply edit the name listed in the manifest file, save it and overwrite the old manfest file located in the Jar file. If you extracted the file, simply archive the file back up using Zip compression, rename the .zip extension to .jar and transfer/download it to your phone.
So for example, you can download Opera Mini 3.1 and change the name listed to
MIDlet-Name: Opera Mini 3.1And it will install as Opera Mini 3.1 and not as Opera Mini which, in most cases, should be a separate install.
Please note, that you may also ened to edit the jad file with some phones as well. Jad files are plain text Ascii files that can be edited like the manifest file.
Final Note:I hope people find this information helpful. Also check back now and then since I will update it regularity as needed to keep the information up to date. Also could a Moderator be kind enough to stick this topic? Thank you in advance.
~

Hmm, I was thinking about gathering up a list of all the "popular" and frequently ask questions and suggestions and make an unoffical FAQ, what do you guys think? Might cut down on people asking the same questions over and over again.

Yup, there seem to be coming newer builds all the time - this is why, in general, don't provide direct JAR links in my articles, but advise going to the download page.

Thank you for the download link list. The guide how to rename versions is good as well and I hope that OM folks allow it. However, OM team has also offered us a possibility to download renamed "Opera Mini 3":
Opera Mini 3.1 renamed as "Opera Mini 3"
http://mini.opera.com/global/opera-mini-3.1.9746-basic-int.jar
http://mini.opera.com/global/opera-mini-3.1.9746-basic-int.jad
http://mini.opera.com/global/opera-mini-3.1.9746-basic-int.zip
http://mini.opera.com/global/opera-mini-3.1.9746-advanced-int.jar
http://mini.opera.com/global/opera-mini-3.1.9746-advanced-int.jad
http://mini.opera.com/global/opera-mini-3.1.9746-advanced-int.zip
What comes to your suggestion to gather up an unofficial FAQ, well, it is simply a great idea. Should we discuss first how to do that? In case if you want other people to suggest topics for you? As an author, you should of course have the final word to decide what questions and answers comes on that list.
Edit: BTW, are there already different versions for OM4? I have version 4.0.9751.
Edit, Edit: IMPORTANT - Folks , do notice that there are no OM4 basics! Only advanced download links work.
Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it. I updated my original post with the new info concerning the 3.1 rename and also removed the basic links from Opera Mini 4 and the betas. Also I'll make a new thread concerning the FAQ so we can discuss the idea and hash out what we should add to it.

Or please please at least give a download link for "Opera Mini 3" at
http://operamini.com/ for PC download. There are still people who can't access mobile content with their inbuilt mobile phone browsers.

Like Menneisyys, I see this thread usefull and important. I only wish that Opera Mini team could just do what Slynderdale have asked:

Then there would be no more need to *bump* this thread.

Great stuff, Slynderdale! A question that occurs to me........I've occasionally found websites which decline to load because they don't recognise OM3.1. Would this renaming procedure allow us to rename OM3.1 as, say, Firefox, thus fooling recalcitrant websites into allowing access?? I'm using a SE P900i, by the way.

No, websites recognize browsers by user agent (HTTP header User-Agent), which, in this case, is sent by Opera servers.

Direct download links are asked every now and then on several threads. Therefore I think it is okay to 'bump' this. However, I agree that especially newbies seem to ignore almost all kind of topic titles and they do not bother to search first. I have done the same error. There are however, those forum members that are in stage of becoming more active. For those members it can be usefull if topics like this are easily accessible on first forum page.
It is also wished several times that this topic could be made as a 'sticky' message. There is however a negative side on this. If there are very many sticky messages on the forum front page, people become annoyed because they have to scroll a lot. Also really important sticky messages become ignored because there are too many of them.
Therefore I suggest that moderator could make only one 'sticky' message for topics suggested by forum members. This topic could be titled something like this: "Usefull threads for newbies, experts and helpers". Then under that message there could be a list of titles and links to all those threads that forum members have asked to be set as 'sticky' messages.
