PM promises climate change policy

October 15, 2007 - 12:06PM

Prime Minister John Howard says he'll soon release a climate change policy that both cuts emissions and protects jobs.

Making his first election campaign YouTube announcement, Mr Howard said the election was about the right leadership for the nation and who could keep the economy strong.

He said unemployment was at a 33-year low, wages were increasing and business confidence was high.

"But I am conscious that not everyone is enjoying the benefits of our vibrant economy," he said.

"The Government will very shortly announce detailed plans on many issues including a climate change policy that balances our obligation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with the need to keep our economy growing."

Mr Howard said he believed Australia could have a full employment economy in which anyone who wanted to work could find a meaningful career.

He said Australians faced the choice between an experienced team with the runs on the board and an Opposition beholden to the union movement.
