Good Practices in Witness Protection

UNODC's Anti-Organized Crime and Law Enforcement Unit is holding a regional expert working group meeting on witness protection for Asia and the Pacific. The meeting, which is taking place at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok, Thailand, aims at developing guidelines for the strengthening of witness protection. It is part of a series of regional meetings where witness protection specialists exchange good practices and give recommendations for enhanced international cooperation. The first such meeting was held in November 2005 in Mexico City and involved Latin American states. Consultations will be concluded at a third and final meeting for Africa and Europe later this year. A global manual of good practices to assist UN Member States to better implement protection measures to witnesses is anticipated for the beginning of 2007.
