IGN Brings Hammer Down On BioShock Queue Jumpers

People are keen for the PC version of BioShock. They're gagging for it. This being the internets, some were bound to try and bend the rules to get hold of it early. That's what happened on IGN's Direct2Drive, where a bunch of people found a way to pre-purchase the game AND start playing it, without waiting for the game's official release date. Some may have pulled it off, but most had their downloads cut off when IGN detected the loophole. End of story, right? These were all paying customers, this is the internet, Direct2Drive improve their security and we move on. Right? Nope! IGN have tried to bring the hammer down, sending the following email to all users they detected jumping the queue and trying to get the game early. more »

Chobot Gets (In)Action Figure

Jessica Chobot, whose PSP licking antics here on Kotaku lead to a writing gig on RedAssedBaboon and then a hosting gig on IGN, is getting her very own set of anime-styled action figures.

Apparently the folks at Southern Island were so enamored with the real Chobot when they met her at Comic Con, they decided they needed to make a couple of little statues of her. Each of the statues, designed by Kerry Shyver, will be sold as limited edition 500-piece runs. The foot-high statues will be hand numbered, but will not feature any licking... instead she will be nibbling on a 360 controller.

Fahey, another RAB alum, thinks they should drop the whole sexy writer angle and focus on a Fahey action figure, one that you can order but never actually ships because it keeps missing its flights.

Hearst Buys UGO

Hearst today announced that they have finalized a two-year deal to buy UGO Networks outright. While the details of the deal were not released, Forbes estimates the deal to "be in the neighborhood of $100 million."

No word yet on what Hearst plans to do with the internet info network, but they sound genuinely jazzed:

Rumble Sixaxis In Developer's Hands?

We've gotten in several tips involving this developer diary posted a few days ago on IGN, showing the folks at Free Radical polishing up the Haze demo that was shown at the Ubisoft gamers day back in late May. At the beginning of this lengthy, relatively entertaining video we see Haze being demoed to the press using a standard Sixaxis, while at around the ten minute mark we are shown two separate developers testing the game and the controller they are using is mysteriously blurred out. The Halo 3 beta has come and gone, leaving me mildly entertained but not particularly impressed. Sure it was Halo-riffic, but I couldn't find anything truly exciting about the game. Another day another "top" list. This time around, the editors at IGN have put together their list of the Greatest PS2 games of all time. Putting these types of lists together are always a chore and I'm sure this one was especially so given the breadth of the PS2s library. Not to mention the fact that everyone has their own opinions and some people get their panties in a twist because their favorite game wasn't included.
