Back to Media Center AUSTIN, TX - July 7, 2000 -- Central Texas broadband company Grande Communications announced today that it has finalized the purchase of San Marcos-based Thrifty Call. The Thrifty Call building in San Marcos, soon to be Grande Communication's corporate headquarters, will house over 230 Grande employees by the end of the year. Grande's Austin and San Antonio offices will each house 500 Grande employees when in full operation. "The Thrifty Call purchase is great for our customers," said William E. Morrow, vice chairman and CEO of Grande Communications. "Thrifty Call's successful local and long-distance service, their superior workforce and the placement of Grande's corporate office in San Marcos allow us to provide state-of-the-art service to citizens of Austin, San Antonio and every city in between." Grande will be building the Headend for their Central-Texas network next to the existing Thrifty Call building. The Headend will serve as the central nervous system for Grande's entire Austin-San Antonio network. It will include a large satellite dish farm, antennae to receive local television and radio broadcasts, and digital hardware and software to drive the company's telephone, video, and high-speed Internet services. Grande Communications previously announced on April 13, 2000, that the company entered into a definitive agreement to purchase the integrated network service provider. The deal's closure provides Grande with 185 skilled employees, telecommunications switches in several markets throughout Texas and an administrative infrastructure that will implement and manage Grande's bundled communications services.
