Sharon's health deteriorates

TEL AVIV, Israel, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- The health of former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, who has been comatose since his massive stroke in January, reportedly has worsened.

The hospital in Tel Aviv where the 78-year-old leader was transferred in May, said a brain scan showed a worsening cerebral condition. Sharon is also suffering from pneumonia in both lungs, reported CNN quoting a hospital statement.

Doctors plan to treat Sharon with a "broad-spectrum antibiotic and anti-inflammatory steroid treatment," the report said.

Last month, doctors said Sharon's kidney functions were worsening.
