It's funny how things work out. Jordin Tootoo of the Nasvhille Predators takes a run at Phoenix rookie Daniel Winnik and it's Coyote rookie Craig Weller who gets the match penalty for intent to injure on the play, because Weller clotheslined Tootoo after the hit.

It appears that the NHL Players Association has found their man. The Calgary Herald reports that the NHLPA's selection committee has unanimously chosen Boston-based lawyer Paul Kelly as the fourth executive director in the union's 40-year history.

Hockey Fights Cancer

October is Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Month around the NHL. Throughout the month, all players will wear a pink Hockey Fights Cancer decal on the back of their helmets, while each team will host a Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Night. On Oct. 10, the NHL on TSN marked the 10th anniversary of the NHL-NHLPA Hockey Fights Cancer campaign, with special features telling the stories of active NHL players afflicted by this disease.
