Schultz: The Patriots' winning ways

10/15/2007

Of all the 32 NFL teams, the New England Patriots fascinate me to the highest degree. The Indianapolis Colts are a close second and I will always have an interest in the Dallas Cowboys, for obvious reasons. But I find the Patriots, well, interesting. Their ability to win consistently despite adversity is more than just impressive because in many situations it is magical. In the past, New England has faced teams with major advantages over them but in the end, the Patriots win.

Schultz: The view from the sidelines

10/14/2007

"Play as long as you can, because when it's over you'll miss it - the reason being ther is nothing quite like it." That's always my all-encompassing response to any player who confides in me and tells me that it may be his last season in pro football. I try to communicate to these guys that when it's over, you'll be on the outside looking in. While it's happening, you're in the inside looking out. It's two completely different worlds.

Comrie shines thanks to Duff's stuff

10/12/2007

My son hates Mike Comrie. Mike Comrie ripped his heart out. Mike Comrie stole his woman.

McKenzie: Head-hunter pays the price

10/12/2007

It's funny how things work out. Jordin Tootoo of the Nasvhille Predators takes a run at Phoenix rookie Daniel Winnik – and it says here Tootoo was targeting Winnik's head – and it's Coyote rookie Craig Weller who gets the match penalty for intent to injure on the play, because Weller clotheslined Tootoo after the hit.

Dreger: Ferguson's future a hot topic

10/11/2007

How many losses like Tuesday's can John Ferguson survive? Rival managers, media colleagues and the fans are asking the question. And the reason why speaks to Ferguson's lame-duck status.

Schultz: A 'routine' win for Dallas

10/9/2007

Last Monday night, the Dallas Cowboys beat the Buffalo Bills 25-24 in what was by far the best game of the 2007 season so far. Given the circumstances going into the game, it should not have even been close. So why was it that the Bills played so well and Dallas looked so average?

McKenzie: A fitting debut for Price?

10/9/2007

There may be those who question the wisdom of the Montreal Canadiens starting netminder Carey Price against Sidney Crosby in his first NHL game on Wednesday night in Pittsburgh, but it may turn out to be a fitting debut.

Schultz: Analysts walk a fine line

10/9/2007

One of the touchiest aspects of being a panel member on the CFL on TSN is criticizing players, coaches, management and team owners. If you come on too strong, you give the impression you know it all and, consequently, look like an idiot.

Hockey's off-ice battle

10/9/2007

Cancer has once again made its way into a hockey locker room. A year after young Phil Kessel revealed a battle with testicular cancer, Jason Blake has stepped forward to talk about his fight with leukemia.

Positive prognosis for Blake

10/9/2007

If there is such a thing as having a good cancer, and there obviously isn't, it looks as though Jason Blake has it. The key for Blake, and this is where the element of risk seems to be, is how he responds to the medication.
