  • September 1, 1984
    The Sports Network signs on as Canada's first and only national 24-hour sports television network, with 323,000 subscribers. First-day programming includes Canada Cup hockey and Blue Jays baseball.
  • February 1988
    TSN becomes the first pay-TV network to acquire broadcasting rights to the Olympic Games and proceeds to show 115 hours of coverage from the 1988 Winter Games in Calgary.
  • September 1989
    RDS, TSN's French language counterpart, signs on.
  • June 1993
    TSN televises the first CFL game played outside of Canada with the Sacramento Gold Miners' debut at home.
  • March 1996
    TSN has live coverage of the last NHL game played at the Montreal Forum.
  • June 1997
    TSN launches CFL Friday Night Football.
  • March 1998
    TSN and RDS sign an agreement with CBC to broadcast the next five Olympic Games through 2008.
  • March 2000
    CTV acquires Netstar Communications, TSN's parent company.
  • August 2001
    TSN changes the name of its flagship news and information program to SportsCentre.
  • June 2004
    NASCAR and TSN team up to establish NASCAR Canada.
