Q: How can I search for information about a specific OUP title?

First, make sure that the title is published by Oxford University Press (generally, books with the ISBN beginning in "019" will be published by Oxford, although sometimes we have books in our catalog with different initial ISBN nunbers). Next, go to the search box (upper left-hand corner of every page) and type in one or two words from the book's title. You can also type in the author's name or the title's ISBN (International Standard Book Number), the ten-digit identifying number.

Q: What is an ISBN?

ISBN stands for "International Standard Book Number." Every title published anywhere in the world is given a unique identifying 10-digit character code, an ISBN. The first three characters identify the publisher of the title, the next six characters are a unique number assigned to the title, the last character (which may be a letter) verifies that the number is a legitimate ISBN. Titles published in the United States are also given a Library of Congress number.

Q: How can I find out more information about a title than is given in the online catalog?

All titles in the General Catalog series and subject listings have an "expanded description" link which leads to descriptive text and usually a cover shot of the title. Many titles have links to their tables of contents. Links to author's websites and other related links are also available on certain titles. Titles that are part of a series link to a list of the rest of the titles in the series. If there is no expanded information listed, that copy has not yet been entered into our master title database.
