Current chapter: Extensions to XHTML-MP and CSS
The extensions to XHTML-MP supported by Openwave Mobile Browser fall into the following categories:
Legacy HTML elements and attributes, which Openwave Mobile Browser supports to maintain compatibility with existing documents on the Web. These extensions are listed in this appendix, but except for a few exceptions, are not otherwise discussed in this book.
Useful elements and attributes that are part of the W3C's XHTML 1.1 specification but are not part of XHTML-MP 1.0.
Useful elements and attributes that are part of WML and that provide features not supported by the Openwave Mobile Browser 6.1 implementation of XHTML-MP and CSS. These make it possible to take advantage of the Openwave icons and (for 6.2) the WAP pictograms stored with the browser on the phone.
Two Openwave extensions that add useful features to the <textarea>
element.
The XHTML 1.1 extensions and the two Openwave extensions are included in the Openwave XHTML-MP DTD: Your documents can be validated against this DTD if you use them. The legacy HTML elements and the WML elements supported by the browser are not included in the XHTML-MP DTD: Your documents will function perfectly if you use them, but they won't validate against the Openwave DTD. For details about the Openwave and other DTDs and validating your documents, see DOCTYPE Declaration.
