Your Say

From the Editor :

No rest for the weary - just one week since the World Twenty20 left our lives three series are underway, with South Africa and Pakistan back in the Test arena, India and Australia slogging it out in a one-day series and England visiting Sri Lanka.

So there's plenty of action to talk about and we want to hear your thoughts on all the on-pitch happenings. With a wonderful array of nationalities among the nations currently playing cricket as well as amongst the Your Say participants, let's concentrate on the cricket and leave the racist accusations to Darrell Hair.

Should you have any queries as to the running of the Your Say section then feel free to pop off an email, and if you would like to share some deep thoughts on a subject that you feel are worthy of a mailbox then please do the same. The address to aim them at is jonhenry.wilson@teamtalkmedia.co.za

Otherwise, just keep on posting and we'll get the messages on the site as soon as possible.

Cheers,

The Editor

Yuvraj scores 121, considerably more than second highest, bowls well to take a wicket and is not the man of the match. If the best performer is not the man of the match does this designation mean anything?

Tuesday - Yeah I must admit I was very impressed by Paul Harris - where did SA finally find a decent spinner from - must be a foreigner !? Seriously though SA's win out in Pakistan (depleted team or not) was an excellent effort. Graeme Smith got a bit of a caning from some quarters after day 4 for declaring when he did, but for once he got something spot on. Poor old Polly could this be the end of the road for him at proper cricket?

South Africa's win on Pakistan soil would be one of the more surprising for a while given that they lost Morkel and left out Pollock and had to contend with a dustbowl. Well done Kallis, Harris and Steyn. Of course Boucher's record was the icing on the cake. Great rearguard innings from Younis.

Sourav Ganguly wasn't picked for the 3rd ODI eventhough he was fit "because he did not fit into the best team combination"!!! Pathetic!!! Sachin & Sourav gave India FOUR century partnerships in the recent UK tour! Sachin stood firm despite great bowling from the Aussies but we lost 3 wickets at the other end because Sourav wasn't playing! We (India) have absolutely no chance of becoming even half as good as the Oz as long as there is so much politics in Indian cricket. No doubt in that. I will be cheering for Australia if Sourav isn't selected for the next match! lol.

Oh come on Karma77.....Pakistan was totally outplayed from day 1..... The only player who looked good was Younis Khan...the rest were bad...

While we are giving the pakistan fans a hard time let's not leave the indian fans out. Hey Indian fans if i am not mistaken India is now 2-0 down against Australia....damn that was a hammering India got today. Guess India focused so much on their sledging that they forgot to play cricket.....lol

a few more classics.... Mark boucher to michael vaughn after he blocked a "pie" of a full toss from a SA spinner "you want some tomato sauce with that vaughny?" another one that comes to mind, cant remember who was involved but i know the receiver was an aussie. aussie bowler says to the batsman "hows your wife and my kids?" batsman says "wife is fine, kids are retarded"

I don't know Karma. The Pakistanis are paid professional cricketers, excuses like there minds are not in it does not count. Yusuf was eligible, but did not play. It was a raging turner, we lost Morne Morkel beforehand and stupidly left out Pollock. Yet SA won. Celebrate it as a good overseas test win (first in a long time). No excuses about Pakistan being off guard!

I am not defending Pakistan but I dont think their players minds are in the right places with Yousuf joining the ICL, etc. We caught them off guard also they were stuck in T20 mode and were not playing good Test Cricket. Oh well good on South Africa.

Here is few more sledges "You can't f****** bat." Merv Hughes makes it clear to England's Robin Smith what he thinks of his talent in the 1989 Lords Test. "Hey Merv, we make a fine pair. I can't f****** bat and you can't f****** bowl." Smith right back at Hughes after he cracked one of his ensuing balls to the boundary. Glen McGrath to eddo Brandes Two people think this is the Best Sledging (Cricket) Glenn McGrath to Zimbabwean Eddo Brandes after Brandes had played and missed at a McGrath delivery: ¿Oi, Brandes, why are you so f****** fat?¿ to which Brandes replied: ¿Cos every time I f*** your wife she gives me a biscuit!¿ Apparently even the Australian slips were in hysterics. Shane Warne to daryll Cullinan One person thinks this is the Best Sledging (Cricket) Shane Warne (Australia) to Daryll Cullinan (South Africa): ¿I¿ve been waiting two years to humiliate you again.¿ Cullinan: ¿Looks like you spent the time eating.¿

Hopefully 20/20 cricket will change the game of cricket forever. Imagine we can see scores of 350-400 in ODI's on a regular basis and faster batting in test cricket. I love my test cricket but sometimes it's soooooo boring when they score at 2 runs per over.

I believe Allan Donald were bowling to Allan Lamb in a county game. Donald bowled full and Lamb drove and missed. Donald said: "There nothing to drive here, Allan" The next ball Lamb did drive through the covers for four and replied: "O yeah? Why don't you park that, Allan?"

Enough about Kallis. I remember a keeper by the name of Robert Charles "Jack" Russell. Although his average of 27 is not impressive he had the Saffers pulling their hair out when England toured in SA. He had a leave that looked like he missed the ball. Making the bowler think he plays and misses all the time. Very interesting character also!

The editor says.... Much like Kallis, old Jack batted as slow as a tortoise.

I dont have a problem sledging on the field BUT you need the game to back it up. Otherwise you gonna end up making a fool of yourself....which brings me to the next question....what is the best sledging you ever heard on the cricket field? I recall 3 incidents. One was Viv Richard batting and some young bowler bowling at him. Viv played and missed a few times in the over. The bowler told him: "It's red and small Viv". The next ball Viv put him away for six on which Viv responded to the bowler: "You know how it looks, now go fetch it." The other one is during the Adam Gilchrist first ever match in australia when he took over from Ian Healy who was dropped for that match. As Gilly took guard, Brian MacMillian said: "You know that everyone in the crowd wants you to fail today." And of course there is the incident when Herschelle Gibbs caught Steve Warne at square leg but then lost the ball as he wanted to toss it up in celebration during the 1999 world cup. Steve Waught then turned to Gibbs and told him: "Son you just dropped the world cup."

The editor says.... Perhaps Sreesanth just dropped the third one-dayer... nah, but did any body see the sitter he grassed on Friday?

shyriz786, I think it would be a real shame if Flintoff was forced out of the game by injury. He's a great cricket player IMHO and was a major factor in England's series win over Australia in 2005. His injuries have since reduced his effectiveness and probably some of his confidence, but a fully-fit and in-form Flintoff would be a frightening prospect for any side.

Hey C365 editor, that headline about Harbhajan on the home page was a bit disconcerting! Overall I think it's good to see other teams matching it with Australia in the sledging stakes, but let's not forget that Harbhajan himself is a veteran of the niggle and I think his comments after the second ODI were a little hypocritical. Great bowler, however, I've got a lot of time for Harbhjan.

Yes Sludge, I do view Smith as not likeable but I'm not on my Pat Malone there. Universally regarded by all, including Saffas, as the world's most loathed cricketer. Sreesanth's making a case to join him though. How dare he think he can take it up to our guys! How long's he been in the game? - five minutes! Show some respect young man.

I think Boucher will end his career ahead of Gilly in terms of dismissals. Boucher is at 30, five years Gilly's junior. Gilly is quite inconsistent now and good early swing bowling, as it always has, troubles him severely. He'll always play killer innings though.

iandekoker, I think you picked one of the best innings in recent memory already. VVS Laxman's 281 against Australia - during the last Australian tour of India but one, I forget exactly when it was - was pretty special and stands out in my mind as probably the best in modern times. I love watching Laxman bat, it's a thing of beauty when he's in form. Adam Gilchrist's century against Pakistan in Hobart - in only his second Test - was pretty good too. Sorry to bring this up with a South African but so was that brutal 214 he made against the Proteas. The best I ever saw personally was probably Mark Waugh's 138 on debut in Adelaide. Best innings of all time? That's a tough one. Everything I've read suggests Bradman's 254 at Lords in 1930 is considered a benchmark for a classic, perfect innings - except for the shot in which he was dismissed, it's said every other shot went exactly where he wanted it to and it was always along the ground. What about Lara's 277 in Sydney?

I am simply overwhelmed by the historical knowledge of cricket greats by many fans in this blog. Some of them have saved the great moments in particular cricketer's life more than 'the Grecian Urn'. The Cricket history reads better than the History of the B. Empire. The lack of bad guys in the cricket history is now slowly being fulfilled by India via their contribution of players like SS, Yugraj and sadly HS and some blind partisan crowd and commentators not to forget umpires like the one who imagines nb to give India a free hit to score 6 to boost their winning chances. In fast moving modern society the possibility of T20, with the sub-continent providing the winner and the runner-up, gaining importance is very good. The game is becoming too fast, when DM , a #6 batsman of Eng., hit 5 sixes of f Yugraj in an ODI, and he hitting 6x6 off the Eng. bowler in T20, are we witnessing events that will rewrite the history?

I have to agree with shyriz786 about SreeShanth's spirit! But, it looks tad too much ... could be because the 2nd ODI was where he is from (cochin). I guess he got too fired up in front of his home crowd! It may be a good idea for him to mellow down a little bit .... not let the emotions get the better of him. I don't think Symonds was being an ass ... (not like his teammates) ... we are already hearing from Brad Haddin about the treatment (chin music) Sreeshanth will be getting in India's forthcoming tour of Australia ... is he trying to use a scare tactic? It is too early to talk like that ... hope he still remembers the Australians will be in India for another couple of days ... This young Indian bunch is not going to put up with junk. It may be wise for both sides to keep the sledging under control :) :) :)

If you are talking about WK/Bat of the past, what about Faroukh Engineer. Dhoni is a penny to his pound.

Nasser Hussain has said that these jobs are for the boys !!! the little group that the ECB has created. Abolutely correct!! England will never amount to a decent cricketing nation if the ECB dont buck up their ideas. What was the point of the Schofield Report?!?!?!? The entire ECB board, selectors and stiff, stuffy old farts should leave the game and be replaced by some enthusiastic yougsters who have the best interest of cricket at heart. OH AND BY THE WAY......FREDDIES DAYS ARE NUMBERED!! I called it a day for Ashley Giles when the rest of England were hoping he will come back, and i say to you now FREDDIE is done with!!! good riddance i say!!!
