Canadian Women's Senior Team

Canada's women's senior team was placed into Group C where they drew Norway, Ghana and Australia for the upcoming FIFA Women's World Cup China 2007. Canada plays Norway on September 12 in Hangzhou, Ghana on September 15 also in Hangzhou, and Australia on September 19 in Chengdu.

The Norwegians should prove to be Canada's stiffest competition. While the 10th-ranked Canadians haven't faced Norway in nearly two years - a 3-0 loss in 2005 - Canada's best result against Norway in eight games is a 1-1 draw at a 2002 international friendly. The teams have also faced each other in two previous FIFA Women's World Cups. The game in 1995 ended in a 7-0 loss for Canada followed by a 7-1 loss in 1999.

Canada faced Australia 13 times in the past 20 years, their most recent result a 2-0 Canadian win in a friendly in 2003. The Canadians have only played Ghana once in international competition, a 1-1 draw in a friendly match in 2003.

Canada finished fourth at the 2003 Women's World Cup that took place in the United States. The team is currently ranked 10th in the world and looking to move up in the rankings.

Head Coach

Recognized as one of the world's foremost coaches in women's soccer, Even Pellerud was head coach of the Norwegian National Women's Team from 1989 to 1996, leading the Scandinavian country to a silver medal at the inaugural FIFA Women's World Cup in China in 1991 and then achieving worldwide acclaim as champions of the second FIFA Women's World Cup four years later in Sweden in 1995.

In 1999, Pellerud signed a five-year contract to be at the helm of the Canadian program through to the conclusion of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, at which point he was offered an eight-year contract to coach Norway, but turned it down.
