Canada lost 4-1 in its World Group II playoff tie versus Argentina in Fed Cup by BNP Paribas action.

With the defeat, Canada is relegated to Americas Zonal Group I status to start 2008 while Argentina advances to World Group II. The event was contested on the outdoor red clay courts at the Cordoba Lawn Tennis Club in Cordoba, Argentina.

The Canadian Fed Cup squad composed of Aleksandra Wozniak, Stephanie Dubois, Marie-Eve Pelletier and Valerie Tetreault could not rebound from a difficult opening day that saw the Argentines take a commanding 2-0 lead.

Sunday's competition started the right way for Canada. The nation's top singles player, Wozniak, battled back after being blanked in the opening set to defeat the highest-ranked competitor in the event, Gisela Dulko (No. 50 on Tour), 0-6, 6-2, 6-2. Dubois substituted for Pelletier who could not compete on the final day due to illness. Dubois could not handle the hard-hitting baseliner Maria Emilia Salerni, who picked up her second win of the weekend, 6-4, 6-1.

With the completion of this tie, Canadian captain Rene Collins celebrated the 20th year of involvement with the Fed Cup as a player, coach or captain.
