The Gairdner Foundation congratulates Professors Ernest McCulloch
and James Till on receiving the 2005 Lasker Award “for
ingenious experiments that first identified a stem cell - the
blood-forming stem cell - which set the stage for all current
research on adult and embryonic stem cells” at an award
ceremony in New York on September 23, 2005.
Drs. McCulloch and Till received a Gairdner Award in 1969.
They are considered to be the fathers of stem cells and the
Gairdner Foundation and Canadians in general take pride in this
wider recognition.
