1. How do I get Channel [V] at home, or at work? Well, you need to live in Australia. Channel [V] comes to our Australian metropolitan viewers via Foxtel & Optus and in regional areas of Australia, through Austar. To subscribe call Foxtel on 131 999 or Austar on 132 432. Call Optus on 13 33 11.

2. How can I find out what interviews and guests are coming up in shows?
Use our amazing, interactive program guide!! It contains more detailed information than the paper program can provide and is part of , meaning you can recieve email updates about your favourite shows & artists.

3. Why does [V] bleep rude words and symbols out of clips? The short answer is, we don't. We play clips in the exact format we receive them in from record companies. Any bleeping or blurring is done by them. If we do get clips with potentially offensive content, we will play them uncensored, but after 11pm at night.

4. How often do you repeat your specials? Specials are generally repeated about every four to five months. Remember though, we usually get the rights to specials for a limited number of plays, so if we've already aired a special more than five times, we might have run out of plays … you can always let us know if you'd like to see something again via e-mail.

5. How often do you repeat your interviews? If you've seen a [V] interview that you'd like repeated, please e-mail us. Even if we can't repeat the whole show it was in, we might be able to pop the interview into another show. Please note: Many of our shows have 'Best Of' series at the end of the year, where you'll see your favourite interviews repeated.

6. When will my request get played? whatuwant receives many more requests per week than we could ever hope to play - however, we try to make sure that everyone gets their favourite clip played eventually. If your request does not appear in whatuwant within a week, please try making that request again. It helps to make the request creative - add some colour and pics to your e-mail!

7. Why do you play so much rap/grunge/teenybopper/punk/R&B/metal crap? Channel [V] tries to play a variety of music, to cater for everyone's taste. This is based on viewers' requests, the ARIA charts and feedback generally. In Non-Stop music hours, we program a big range of stuff. Even if you do think your favourites are being overlooked in favour of some other genre of music, it's probably not true.

8. I went to watch something that was advertised in the program - and it wasn't on! Why not? Unfortunately, we are required to provide program information to the Foxtel, Austar & Optus guides up to three months in advance of the program coming out. In the meantime, we may have to cancel or replace specials or shows, usually for legal reasons. There is no way to amend the guides. Sorry. Please use the web site program pages as the ultimate source of information.

9. Why didn't you film 'x' band live when they were in Australia? Sometimes we are lucky enough to film bands in concert, e.g. The Big Day Out. In some cases, we cannot justify the substantial expense of doing so, or else we are not granted the rights to film a band live. Please note: many bands DON'T WANT TO BE FILMED either because they are very protective of their image on-camera OR they do not want another company (ie. us) getting commercial use out of their music OR they may have promised the rights to another broadcaster.

10. Why can't you show all the 'MTV Unplugged' specials or the VH1 specials? Because MTV are our direct competitor in Australia, and we can't air specials carrying their branding, even if they were interested in selling them to us, which they're not. The same applies to VH1, the sister channel to MTV in The US. We do however, have a contractual relationship with MuchMusic in Canada, who supply us with the awesome Intimate & Interactive specials.

11. Why don't you have more rap / grunge / teenybopper/ punk /R&B/ metal specials? Because we can't get them!! We're trying really hard but in those rare cases where they exist, the record companies do not include Australia in their distribution agreements, under the belief that the artists aren't as popular down under. We shall persevere!

12. Can I have tour dates for x band? All the tour dates we get we put up on the gig guide. If they're not up there, the dates haven't been confirmed yet, (or else the promoter hasn't advised us yet). Otherwise, try our good friend Google...

13. Can our band/our friend's band/this awesome local outfit near us get played on [V]? If you have a decent video put together, shoot it through to us to have a look at, we might 'discover' you, so to speak. Send it in on Digital-Beta (with a bio of the band, including all publishing details for the song & vid) to:

Brett Nossiter
Head of Programming
Channel [V]
PO Box 2692
SYDNEY NSW 2001

N.B. We get hundreds of videos a month and it's impossible for us to give you advice, feedback on your video. Video submissions MUST be received on Digital Beta (not VHS or Beta-SP).

14. Can I buy a tape of one of your shows/interviews/specials? Unfortunately our licence to broadcast live footage, interviews and clips does not cover making duplicates of tapes and distributing them for profit or otherwise. Apart from the legal aspect, we don't have staff to handle copying tapes for viewers. Sorry.

15. How can I be in the studio audience for [V] Shows?
At the moment, you can't - we film on a closed set which doesn't have the capacity for public attendance. Bummer hey.
