A TOP LAW-SCHOOL JOB RETRACTED

One week after signing a contract to become the inaugural law dean at the University of California at Irvine, Erwin Chemerinsky had a visit from the man he expected to be his new boss. The chancellor had come to withdraw the offer.

DONATION TO HIRE FINE DOCTORS

Baylor College of Medicine, in Houston, will receive a $100-million donation from a family foundation to hire physicians and scientists from around the world, college officials announced on Wednesday.
