AFLPA announces MVP nominations15 Sep 2005 - Jason Murnane The AFL Players' Association takes great pleasure in announcing the nominations for the 2005 AFLPA MVP awards. The AFLPA is hosting its Most Valuable Player awards night on Grand Final eve, Friday September 23rd, at Melbourne's Park Hyatt.The votes of AFL players decide the major awards presented on the night. Over 600 players have cast their votes in the only player voted AFL awards. Players initially nominate players from their own club for each award. Players then vote for the player, (not from their own club), they believe should win each award. Categories include Best Captain, sponsored by Integrated Group; Robert Rose award for Most Courageous Player, sponsored by Pacific Internet; Best First Year Player, sponsored by PKF Chartered Accountants & Business Advisors and the prestigious Leigh Matthews Trophy for the Most Valuable Player. Other awards to be announced include the Education & Training Excellence award, sponsored by Computer Power; the Qantas AFLPA Marn Grook Award for best emerging Indigenous player; the Grant Hattam trophy for football journalism, sponsored by Corrs Chambers Westgarth Lawyers & the Mike Fitzpatrick Scholarships, supporting young players aspiring to an AFL career in their education & training.
