Are you a past VFL / AFL Player? Then join the AFLPA

6 Mar 2007 - Jason Murnane

Thanks to a change to the AFL Players' Association rules, all former VFL / AFL players are now eligible to become past player members of the AFL Players' Association.

By becoming a past player member of the AFL Players' Association, former VFL / AFL players can gain access to a growing number of AFLPA member benefits, including Medical and motor vehicle insurance programs.

Past player AFLPA members can also remain informed of AFLPA initiatives and receive invitations to AFLPA events.

To become a member, eligible former VFL / AFL players simply need to complete the AFLPA Past Player Member application form, attached at top right.

AFLPA Commited to past player welfare

At the AFLPA, one of our top priorities is to assist and support past players and ensure their health and well-being needs are met.

Many past players suffer poor health as a result of the injuries and physical conditions incurred whilst playing our great game, which is undoubtedly one of the most physically demanding sports in the world.

That's why the AFLPA has launched the HealthKICK program featuring the AFLPA Health Cover Program and AFLPA Geoff Pryor Benefits Scheme .

AFLPA Health Cover Program

MB

The AFLPA has been able to take advantage of our collective bargaining power to secure a terrific deal for our past players on private health insurance.  By having private health insurance a whole range of services become both affordable and accessible.

We have partnered with Australia's largest health fund, Medibank Private to offer you access to their innovative corporate health cover range called Medibank Priority, which is not available to the general public.

Medibank Priority's great features include :

* Special Corporate Premiums
* Private Room Guarantee for pre-booked overnight stays at Members' Choice Hospitals
* No Excess for Children on all Priority Hospital covers
* $50,000 Accidental Death Benefit# for the contributor with any Priority Hospital cover
* Free dental exam, scale and clean twice a year with any Priority Extras cover at a Members' Choice dentist.
* Access to an online Health & Well-being program

In addition to the above benefits, the AFLPA will cover the cost of the excess payable should you be hospitalised.  This represents a potential saving of $500 per year.

For further details, or if you have any queries contact the dedicated Medibank Priority team on 131 680.

AFLPA Health and Well-being Grants

To complement our health insurance initiative, we are also providing an annual round of grants to assist past players who are experiencing financial difficulty in meeting health related expenses. This means each year we'll invite each AFL Club Past Player Committee to consider and nominate past players in financial need - and reimburse them for the cost of any treatment to the value of $5,000.

The specific guidelines and arrangements for the provision of AFLPA Health Grants will be determined in conjunction with Past Player Groups in the near future to ensure a clear, efficient and transparent process is in place which is accessible to all past players requiring this kind of assistance.

AFLPA Past Player Membership

To access our HealthKICK program you need to register with us as a Past Player (VFL and AFL).  As a past player member you will also get access to our motor vehicle insurance program, be eligible for other benefits, kept informed of AFLPA initiatives and receive invitations to AFLPA events.
