Marn Grook Award (since 2001)
The Marn Grook award, proudly sponsored by Qantas, is awarded to the best emerging Indigenous player. To be eligible for this award, contenders must have debuted within the previous three AFL seasons.dp

Grant Hattam Trophy (since 1999)
Named after the late Grant Hattam, prominent media and sports lawyer with Corrs Chambers Westgarth, this trophy recognises outstanding football journalism from the players’ perspective.   All forms of media from all around Australia are eligible for this award, but the piece must date between the end of the season through to September of the following year.

Education and Training Excellence Award
The AFL Players' Association Education and Training Excellence Award recognises excellence in professional sport, education and training.  More than ever, AFL players are combining and excelling in AFL football, education and accredited training.  The Education and Training Excellence Award is awarded at the AFLPA's Most Valuable Player function.

Port Adelaide's  Josh Mahoney  is the winner of the 2006 AFLPA Education and Training Excellence award.joshm

Over his time in the AFL, Josh has completed a Bachelor of Science at La Trobe University, a Graduate Certificate in Marketing at the University of South Australia and is currently completing a Masters in Marketing, also at the University of South Australia.  In between hitting the books, Josh also played in Port Adelaide’s 2004 Premiership side.

Mike Fitzpatrick Scholarships
These scholarships have been named after Mike Fitzpatrick in recognition of his outstanding efforts and achievement to combine football with academic excellence. Mike took leave from professional football in 1975 and left Australia to study a Rhodes scholarship at Oxford. Upon completion of his studies, Mike rejoined the Carlton Football Club and was captain from 1980 to 1983.

As well as being an AFL Commissioner, Mike is founder and former managing director of Hastings Funds Management Limited. He was formerly a director with CS First Boston, a member of the Melbourne Park Tennis Centre Trust, a director of the Carlton Football Club, Chairman of the Australian Sports Commission and a Vice President of the then VFL Players' Association in the early 1980s.

The scholarships are designed to support young players in their education and training while they are aspiring to an AFL career. The program has been developed in conjunction with the AFLPA Player Development Program  and reinforces the association's commitment to the future player education and welfare of AFL players.
