AFLPA launches Professional Development Program - Cert II & IV

The AFL Players' Association today launched it's 2005 Professional Development Program - Certificate II & IV. The Certificate's are to be delivered by Athlete Development Australia (ADA) and reinforce the AFLPA's commitment to prepare players for life after football.
The initiative was launched today at the North Melbourne Football Club by Kangaroos senior coach, Dean Laidley, AFLPA CEO Brendon Gale, senior Kangaroos player Leigh Colbert, Mark Porter from ADA and former Docker and Roo Matthew Burton.
The program will be managed by former Blue and Roo Mark Porter, along with Jim Plunkett, whose football career saw him play with the Western Bulldogs and Carlton.
The PDP is made up of two parts. In the first instance, players can undertake a Certificate II in Sport - Career Orientated Participation. This is a specialised qualification suited to to athletes likely to make a career out of playing sport.
The Professional Development Program Certificate IV in Sport and Recreation is the next step from the Certificate II course. This course is targeted towards players in their third to sixth year and aims to further develop and enhance players skills on and off the field.
Successful completion of the Certificate II and/or IV will arm players with the skills needed for now and the future.
ADA have a formal relationship with Victoria University which now accredits the training that ADA delivers.
Eight clubs across four states are undertaking this years program.
