Beetle Adventure Racing has the look of a gritty realistic racing simulation, but it has the power-ups and huge jumps found in arcade racing games. You'll be driving shiny Beetles through movie theaters, over volcanoes, across a mini-Stonehenge, and over terrain that ranges from ice to sand. Apparently your Beetle is even equipped with a time travel option, because on one track you'll come face to face with a T-Rex. Now that's a feature that can raise the sticker price in a hurry! An intensely addictive combo of wild arcade racing and fun platform-style exploration … the joy of exploring all its cool tracks will make you feel like a kid in a candy store.

Even a bicycle would be fun to ride in this game. Why? Because the tracks are spectacular. Ranging from a spoof of Jurassic Park to a complex city with freeways, hairpin turns and even staircases that can be used as ramps, the tracks are complex, beautiful and enjoyable over and over.

The only action racer you'll need for your N64. Put simply, this game is so good that it deserves your money no matter what type of video game you enjoy playing.

Arrives as a breath of fresh air in a genre that hasn't moved forward in years. The tracks are unbelievable, physics are cool and the handling is dead-on.

A racer in the vein of "San Francisco Rush," with tons of shortcuts. [Jan 2004, p.189]

This is what we fans have been asking for--so many shortcuts that you can take only a few during each lap or you'll miss seeing the rest! These aren't pointless shortcuts either; they all have a reason for being there and allow you to stray way off the main course, giving the game a great sense of freedom.

Gone are the muscle cars, the rally vehicles, and the crazy collection of authentic automobile licenses. Beetle Adventure Racing managed to take me out of the stale racing format and threw me into an exploration game.

You're looking at the box art for Beetle Adventure Racing while viewing it on a store shelf or in a glass case. You decide that it looks a little childish, so you might pass it up for some other racer. Stop. That would be the single biggest mistake you've made in your entire gaming life.

If I had to compare, I would say it is Need for Speed with better graphics, faster frame rates, better shortcuts, minus the cop’s pursuit, but equals the same fun.

A great deal of fun. It's an excellent game, whatever genre or sub-genre you try to classify it in, and its flaws don't drag it down nearly as much as they might sound. This game is not to be missed, highly recommended, and so on.

You may have a couple of cartoon explore n' race cartridges in your collection already but I guarantee you'll find this game worth your time and every penny you pay for it.

Quite simply, Beetle Adventure Racing is the most fun, most exciting and most satisfying racing game on the N64 to date.

As the title suggests, the gameplay in Beetle Adventure Racing is focused more on having fun rather than being serious. Thanks to the ludicrous amounts of jumps and turbo boosters littered on each track, your VW is capable of leaping into the air with the greatest of ease.

Giant leaps, wild turns, and the mix of realistic settings and fantasy side-shows makes these some of the best courses I've seen in awhile.
