Does anyone read musicOMH.com?

In the month of February 2007 the site was read by 410,261 unique users, according to Google Analytics.

What is musicOMH.com?

musicOMH.com is a diverse and completely independent reviews and features publication, covering music, films and theatre in London, the UK and beyond. Editorially it occupies a space somewhere between newspapers and specialist music magazines.

Newsnow Our articles can be found on many major search engines and directories. We feed Google News, RocketNews, Metacritic, NewsNow.co.uk and other aggregators, and our articles are equipped with tools for submission to user-generated news sites such as Digg.

musicOMH.com's mainstream, indie and world film reviews can also be found at the popular meta-review search sites the Movie Review Query Engine (MRQE) and Rotten Tomatoes.

This year we launched our own live music nights. These nights are occasional, and run either by us or as co-hosted events with other promoters and so far have all been at London's Luminaire - voted Time Out magazine's Live Music Venue of the Year 2005-06.

Who can get involved?

We're always looking for enthusiastic music, film, opera and theatre fans who would like to write - regardless of age or location. We have reviewers throughout the UK plus the USA, France and Ireland. From time to time we travel further afield - theatre reviews from Sydney or gig reviews from Reykjavik have been known.

We prefer experienced writers who are keen to add to their portfolios or diversify their writing, but we're also happy to consider first-timers on the merits of submitted reviews.

If you'd like to join the team, see below for what we're after...

What do you cover?

Whatever we want to, regardless of genre, and depending on what is sent to us. Take a look through the site to get an idea of our coverage, which in music extends to everything from classical to metal and from alt.country to R&B.;

We review gigs wherever they and we happen to be. Reviews have appeared from London, Christchurch, Sydney, Melbourne, Los Angeles, Paris, New York, Reykjavik, Lisbon, Dublin... and throughout the UK. But if you live somewhere that we don't yet cover and fancy writing a review of something you've seen, get in touch!

As the hours in any given day are finite, we do not review everything that's sent to us - which is a lot! - but if you would like us to review your latest CD, film, opera, play or gig, it can't hurt to ask.

Why don't you have a news section?

Historically because we've not had enough man hours to run one properly. However, we are launching one in summer 2007 for the music, classical and opera and theatre sections.

How do I find articles on a particular band or artist?

Our search engine, currently powered by Google, is found on all pages. You can also click a letter at the top right of most pages for lists of articles categorised alphabetically.

How do I buy CDs, DVDs, tickets, merchandise, downloads...?

musicOMH.com, through its partner Amazon.co.uk, offers music, video, DVD and games releases, books through secure servers. Worldwide delivery is available and orders can be placed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Simply enter your choice in the search box, found in the top left of every page of the site, and click "go" to check prices and availability. Additionally, many items will have direct links to the appropriate page on Amazon.co.uk at the bottom of the page, allowing you to select your item with ease.

We are also partnered with ticketing and merchandise firms. Click on the orange boxes on the right hand side of many pages to access these. Buying through these links helps to fund musicOMH.com's continued existence.

We are intending to conclude a downloads deal that fits best with our technical requirements in summer 2007.

Where is musicOMH.com?

musicOMH.com is managed from London, with contributors located across the UK and elsewhere in Europe and north America.

What are the system requirements?

This has been tested to work best at 800x600 pixels on the latest versions of Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Internet Explorer and Safari.

Videos and trailers, usually hosted by third parties, require a streaming media player. Most links work with Windows Media Player or RealPlayer and some work with QuickTime.

How do I get my release reviewed?

As the site's been around for a fair few years, we receive products from a wide range of labels, studios, theatre and opera companies, pluggers, PR firms - and artists directly.

But if you think we don't yet know about your band/film/production/album and you have an abiding urge to tell us, use the little contact us link at the base of every page of the site to tell us why we should know you.

Despite our very best intentions, however, there's absolutely no way we can review everything we receive. If it interests us, we'll do our utmost to write about it. But we do not review online material or demo CDs.

You'll notice we don't publish a postal address. You'll need to contact us online with your enquiry first.

I want to write for musicOMH.com - how do I start?

Well, it's that little contact form again. Once you've written to tell us how marvellous you are, we'll send you an email with some pointers for what we look for (assuming you've managed to write clearly, concisely, sparkily and accurately). It's then up to you to follow up with some sample reviews.

We may as well say it now. We don't care who you've written for, which qualifications you have or who you know - if you can't write, proof and format to house style, we're not likely to require your services. If you can, chances are we'll want a chat. If after writing to us you've still not received a reply after three weeks, feel free to contact us again.

I want to syndicate your content - can I?

We discuss syndication of content on an individual basis, so please contact us.

I signed up to the mailing list but have received nothing - why?

We've just launched our mailing list as of 1 May 2007. If you've not received an invite email to join it, you can register here.

No RSS?

Nope. This site was designed "by hand" many moons ago. We're gradually bringing the back end up to date to let us introduce nice whizzbangery like RSS. Stay with us though - we're always making incremental changes - often based on suggestions from our readers. A fairly hefty update will happen during summer 2007.
