Kamila Shamsie was born in 1973 in Pakistan. She is the author of Salt and Saffron, published by Bloomsbury in 2000, In the City by the Sea and Kartography. Her first novel, In the City by the Sea, was shortlisted for the John Llewelyn Rhys/Mail on Sunday Prize. In 1999 she received The Award for Literature in Pakistan. She has a BA in Creative Writing from Hamilton College in Clinton NY, and a MFA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
