Dr. Debby Watson told the TEAM conference March 11 that when she talks with poor children about why schools are important to them, they tell her that they make friends and happy memories in school, that school feeds them and gives them hope, and that they think school can help them not be poor. South Africa's president Thabo Mbeki reinforced his dedication to continuing partnership between his government and the Anglican Church during a March 9 meeting with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Rowan Williams, and Archbishop Njongonkulu Ndungane of Southern Africa. In this audio stream, Mbeki and Williams address the media March 9 following their meeting. Cape Town Archbishop and Primate of Southern Africa Njongonkulu Ndungane told the Towards Effective Anglican Mission (TEAM) conference March 8 that God had called the participants to Boksburg, South Africa. "We hear and we respond because we serve a God who hears the cries of the oppressed," Ndungane said in his opening address to the TEAM conference. Archbishop Njongonkulu Ndungane of Cape Town, Primate of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa, has been one of the leading voices on issues of peace and justice throughout the Anglican Communion and is steadfast in his endorsement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Grace Phiri of the Zambian Anglican Council
Grace Phiri, national health advisor for the Zambian Anglican Council (ZAC), is involved in health policy formulation in the Anglican Church in Zambia and interprets government health policies to ensure effective implementation of the Church's health programs. She has been instrumental in piloting a malaria prevention and control program through ZAC. In an interview with Episcopal News Service, Phiri speaks about her responsibilities with ZAC and how the partnership with Episcopal Relief and Development has aided the Church's mission and helped to build capacity for development in the five dioceses of Zambia.  Watch the Video

Brian Grieves on the Towards Effective Anglican Mission conference
The "Towards Effective Anglican Mission" (TEAM) conference, meeting in Boxburg, South Africa, March 7-14, 2007, will bring together representatives from the worldwide Anglican Communion to focus on issues of poverty and AIDS and to enhance current initiatives in social outreach work to achieve the United Nations' Millennium Development Goals. The Rev. Pre-investiture preparations completed at Washington National Cathedral
On the eve of the investiture of the 26th Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori, final preparations for the November 4 service at the Washington National Cathedral are now complete. The Rev. Lynne A. Grifo, associate coordinator in the Office of Ministry Development, underscores the importance of theological education in the Episcopal Church and offers a profile of the redesigned "Theological Education for All" website. The website's new look brings ease to finding an expanded selection of downloadable resources to help visitors explore spirituality and the Christian faith. As the fifth anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11 approaches, Presiding Bishop Frank T. Griswold calls on all people to commit to "a future in which the events of that day will not be repeated." Bonnie Anderson reflects on General Convention, upholds MDGs
Bonnie Anderson, recently elected president of the General Convention's House of Deputies, speaks about the rich history of the Episcopal Church's decision-making processes and the mission priorities emphasized at its 75th General Convention, held in June in Columbus, Ohio. 

"These mission priorities placed Justice and Peace -- Promoting justice and peace for all of God's creation and continuing and accelerating the leadership role and programs of the Episcopal Church, which support the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in the dioceses of the Episcopal Church and in the world -- as the number one priority," she said, challenging all people to focus upon the mission of reconciliation in the world and particularly with the global poor.

Presiding Bishop supports listening process, writes to primates
In a February 2006 letter to the primates and moderators of the Anglican Communion, Presiding Bishop Frank Griswold conveyed his support for the listening process and his hope that there may be more opportunities for Anglicans to meet face to face. The Anglican Communion’s listening process was first requested at the Lambeth Conference of Bishops in 1998 and gained fresh impetus at the Anglican Consultative Council meeting in June 2005. It is intended to honor the process of mutual listening throughout the Communion, including listening to the experiences of gay and lesbian people. In an interview with Episcopal News Service, Griswold speaks about the significance of listening to the experiences and beliefs of Anglicans throughout the world.  Listen Here

Abagail Nelson, vice president of ERD, led a conversation with the three Anglican women -- Lisbeth Barahona of the Diocese of El Salvador; the Rev. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW), a forum sponsored by Anglican Women's Empowerment (AWE) was held March 4 at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City, where Anglican women shared their hopes and concerns for a world in which Christian faith calls them to action. Walking in the Footsteps of Jesus

"Walking in the Footsteps of Jesus," a 25-minute documentary produced by the Episcopal Church's Office of Communication, follows a pilgrimage throughout the Holy Land, including visits to Bethlehem, Galilee, Jerusalem and Nazareth. Led by tour guide Iyad Qumri, the pilgrims, members of the Diocese of Los Angeles, made the journey October 15-25 as part of a mission trip that built on an existing companion relationship with the Diocese of Jerusalem.

Episcopal Youth Event 2005
More than 1,000 young Episcopalians representing almost every diocese in the Episcopal Church gathered at Berea College in Kentucky July 26-31 for the 2005 Episcopal Youth Event. The program included a variety of music, worship, public forums and workshops, all helping to capture the week's theme: "Can you catch the spirit off the beaten path?" Presiding Bishop Frank Griswold and more than 50 other bishops also participated in the week's activities.

Anglican Consultative Council
The Anglican Consultative Council (ACC), the main legislative body of the Anglican Communion that represents the voice of the inner life of the provinces, is one of the four instruments of unity. The 13th meeting of the ACC -- abbreviated as ACC-13 -- is being held June 19-28 at the University of Nottingham, England. A comprehensive agenda will address pertinent global issues such as poverty, disease and injustice, as well as ongoing conversations regarding ecumenical affairs, mission and evangelism, theological education, women's issues, among others.

Primates Meeting 2005
The Primates of the Anglican Communion gathered at the Dromantine Conference Centre near Newry, Northern Ireland, February 21-25. International concerns facing the leaders included relief efforts after the South Asia tsunami, HIV/AIDS and the church's response, and a priority for the gathering is to receive and discuss the Windsor Report, the culmination of almost a year's dialogue between the 17-member Lambeth Commission on Communion.

Windsor Report 2004
The Lambeth Commission on Communion published its report (Windsor Report) at a news conference in St. Paul 's Cathedral, London , on Monday, October 18, 2004 . Archbishop Robin Eames , Primate of All Ireland and chairman of the commission, gave a short presentation on the document. Presiding Bishop Frank Griswold delivered a message to the Episcopal Church in response to the Lambeth Commission on Communion's Windsor Report.
