In Warhawk, players experience the thrill of white-knuckle aerial combat with hundreds of enemy fighters, bone-crunching armored assaults and high-intensity infantry combat in a massive, all-out war fought both on the ground and in the skies. During gameplay, players are tasked with protecting their homeland from the invading Chernovan armada. By doing so, players take command of the most advanced war machine in the fleet, the Warhawk, capable of aerobatic dogfights at high speeds or hovering over ground troops providing tactical support. Players continue the battle on foot with an arsenal of weaponry including pistols, rifles, grenades and more. Furthermore, players can gain access to an array of ground vehicles and lay waste with powerful weapons mounted on jeeps, tanks and specialty transports. Fight on Foot, in Ground Vehicles, or in the Sky – Next-gen multimodal design throws players into a deep gameplay experience. Fight in the war as a foot soldier, vehicle driver or ace pilot - whenever you want. Experience an Expansive Online Community – Players can join in epic multi-modal 32-person online battles, constantly evolving with downloadable content and a variety of online game modes. [SCEA]

Gaming Target
At $40 for the PSN file, it may be the most expensive downloadable game you buy, but it’s currently the best online multiplayer title to hit PS3.

You're going to need the patience of Job to persevere in the early stages, but if you manage it then you're in for one of the best multiplayer experiences available.

With the amount of chaos the game throws at you, the options, and the diversity in gameplay, this one's a no-brainer. Warhawk is simply the s**t - and I highly suggest you ignore any naysayer who says otherwise.

It's a masterpiece of balance, of design, and the jewel in Sony's online crown.

Warhawk is an extremely well-designed online multiplayer game. We're sure that once the initial rush at retail has settled down a bit, regular fans of the game can look forward to a solid online experience with the great potential for future downloadable maps, skins and so on.

It may be multiplayer only, it may not have bots, and it may have a steep learning curve, but Warhawk lives up to its billing: a AAA experience that is an adrenaline rush for online fans. Large worlds, balanced combat mechanics and impressively deep server mechanics help this fast paced game soar.

It's not easy to create a multiplayer game that's utterly accessible to first-timers and yet varied enough to have serious legs.

This game has a stripped-down feel, but the exciting gameplay certainly makes up for those feelings. This is blue versus red across multiple modes and maps, in the land or in the air. And it's excellent fun.

Sweaty-palm online gaming that gets better as teamwork develops. [Oct 2007, p.78]

The complete lack of anything for single players hurts it a little bit, as does the unreliable stat tracking, though everything else is fine-tuned to near perfection.

At its best, Warhawk delivers constant thrills through exciting team-based action that’ll have you coming back for more if only to rank up to the next level in your leaderboard standings. At its worst, Warhawk will disappoint because you’ll never really get a good context or sense of the world around you, since there really aren’t any plot or characters to deliver those elements.

The controls for the plane are everything they should be, and echo most every other aspect of the game: a tightly polished product that is simply intuitive. Though the action became intense and sometimes frustrating, I was always ready to jump right back into the mix.

Incognito has taken the DNA of Battlefield and crafted a sublime online console game - a virtual battlezone that serves up more than its fair share of wonderful audio-visuals, but more than that, plays beautifully, with every game you play supplying a key gameplay moment that only online gaming provides.

Like many, I was pretty bitter at the loss of the originally planned single-player mode, but what Warhawk ultimately evolved into is a fantastic, accessible take on "Battlefield". [Oct 2007, p.94]

PSM Magazine
It's fun enough, but even with the headset, it's too expensive for a game that you cannot play by yourself, and its balancing issues severely limit what you can do in the game. [Oct 2007, p.77]

Martin K. gave it a6:
The game is pretty much planetside meets battlefield. The game isn't setting any new standards, and is pretty much a ripoff of other games. The controls are so and so. But as a "cheap" network game, you do get something for your money. For replayability I would go for something else.

I am happy to dust off the PS3 and take a break from Bioshock. Warhawk is much fun! You can customize your characer and aircraft (within limits),play the offline four split screen, LAN, or the mayhem of 32 player online! The game delivers on pure fun and exciting battles...I can even play with my kids as a team online!! There are plenty of battles on Sony's free server, and I can take part in an air campaign, ground battle or stealth my way onto a base and help take it over all during the same battle!!!! Warhawk is sweet, very addictive and loads of fun; a pleasant break from my 360!

Ben gave it a10:
The best and complete online experience so far ever done. Great graphics and sound, perhaps a little bit caothic but you can rest for a while in one of the safe zone of your teams as shown on the map. Sure it's pure arcade there's not a real simulation...but it's so fun !! A must buy !

Tony M. gave it a10:
So far so good. I am only crying for rolling and more guns. Flying is way funnier than in battlefield, but ofc not so good as on simulators. As on riflemen its really fun too, there is little autoaim and its very easy to move and aim. Im looking forward to patching and maybe we will get more jets and vehicles!

Jeff G. gave it a0:
Overhyped and boring. I have been looking forward to this for the past 6 months and it's complete crap! It seems like it was rushed because of the sloppy controls. I never thought I'd say this but I am getting really close to buying the 'other' console, even though I've been a Sony supporter since the PS1. Sometimes you just need to bite the bullett and realize this is my money I'm wasting, regardless of my biases.

LTL LTL gave it a9:
As intense and fun as it can get. Very pretty. Only downside is there is not party system and you have to push to talk.

Craig H. gave it a9:
An amazing online experience with non stop action, explosions, and unique things to do. want to fly around and dogfight? Check. Want to run around on the ground and torch people with a flamethrower? Check. Want to hang out in an anti-aircraft turret and shoot down approaching enemies? Check. This game has it all. To me, it feels like a nice balance between Battlefield 2 and Unreal Tournament. BF2 for the large maps, checkpoints, vehicles, etc and UT for the fast paced action many of us love. If you're a fan of multiplayer shooters, this can NOT be missed.
