Editor's review of LimeWire

Down to the wire

From its start as a post-Napster clone to its leading role as the quintessential Gnutella client, LimeWire has been one of the highest-profile P2P applications. The 4.0 series further ups the ante with a combination of new features, an updated interface, and better all-around performance.

On the surface, the refined and zippier Java interface houses some snazzy new icons and a few new features, including a connection-quality meter and a button matrix for zeroing in on specific file types. The search interface now sports a progress bar, and file information--such as artist and album--is more clearly displayed. The improved network performance gave us considerably more search results than previous versions and a more reliable downloading experience (for a P2P client, that is). This latest version also feels more nimble despite its inherently resource-heavy Java-based foundation. We like the What's New feature, which lists files recently added to the network. The check box to filter out adult content also is a nice touch.

The new features and overall functionality make this by far the most mature version of LimeWire to date. Despite the typical performance flaws found in all file-sharing clients, this latest version continues to offer solid performance and good looks across the board.

LimeWire is safe and very FAST at downloading music

by: goldengreeke on 25-Jun-2006 03:31:23 PM

Pros: I noticed the last two reviewers were complaining about viruses in the software files. LimeWire is safe if you know what you are doing. I am going to explain one more time how to use Limewire. LimeWire has TONS of search results, TONS of hosts, and lightning fast downloads. With broadband you can download 50 popular songs in about 10 minutes or less. Some songs take less than 10 seconds! You can also chose which host has the fastest connection to download from. T3 is the fastest, followed by T1, Cable/ DSL, and Modem. LimeWire is also very good at finding Full length feature films, videos, games, and software products. LimeWire Has no ads or popups to distract you. If you are downloading just music, you shouldn't have any problems. But if you are downloading games, movies, or other software products, try to know the correct size, and NEVER download a file that is smaller than 1 MB. It will be a virus. Also never download an exe file..only RAR files, and always scan with your virus protection. Some of these small virus files are sent by the publishers,( because they feel we should buy their product instead of getting it for free) , and some by sick perks who think it is a joke to give you a virus. As far as spyware, most p2p apps are considered spyware by many antispy programs. If your spy cleaner detects LimeWire as spyware...just uncheck the box or add it to the always ignore list, sometimes called the White list. Hope this answers your questions. Happy Downloading! goldengreeke

NIce sharing program

by: Yellow69 on 24-Jun-2006 05:30:31 AM

Pros: Okay.... its got good music downloads and some movies which are really good.

I recommend this program though for music downloads because this has got A LOT of music files and basically all of them are mp3.

Cons: Okay... this is the con... in the zip and EXE files... THERE ARE WAY TOO MANY VIRUSES.... each one of them is basically an virus.. I truly recommend this for only music and movie downloads. Be prepared for an virus attack if you download any zip file or rar or any EXE

Pros: Good P2P client, useful if your downloading lots of mp3s and movies the speed is really amazing too. There are lots of users online so you won't have problems finding files.

Cons: Most Softwares are either fake or have spyware/virus. I would prefer that you use this only for Mp3 or Movies.
