Three Days Grace originated as a quintet and was formed in 1992 under the name, "Groundswell". The group often performed at bowling alleys with an average group of 67 people in attendance. There name was changed to Three Days Grace, which also became a trio in 1997. The group had located from Norwood, a small town east of Peterborough, Ontario, to Toronto and met with producer Gavin Brown, being part of the band, "Big Sugar".

Gavin Brown also helped produce their self-titled debut album, "Three Days Grace", which was then released in 2003. It did reach at the top ten of the American album's chart, the top hundred of the Canadian Billboard 200 album's chart, and the number one on the Billboards Top Heatseeker's chart. Upon completion of the album, the band members recruited Barry Stock to help with lead guitar and to give Adam some breathing room on stage and while touring.

The album's hit lead single, "I Hate Everything About You", had rose to number one in the USA and to number two on the Canadian Mainstream, Alternative and Active Rock charts. Their second single hit, "Just Like You", gave the group a second number one in America, which they also hit number one on the rock charts in Canada. Their third single called, "Home", was also a hit and charting at number two on the U.S. Modern Rock chart, and was also the second most played Active Rock song of 2005. A fourth single, "Wake Up", was only released in Canada, which also achieved success on the Canadian Rock chart. Videos for the first three singles were widely played on MTV, MTV2, and Muchmusic & Fuse.

In 2004, Gavin Brown won a Juno Award for his production on the album and for his work on "Try Honesty" by the band, Billy Talent. Three Days Grace was also nominated for Best New Group Of The Year, but they lost to Billy Talent.

On March 31, 2006, the band released their first single off of their album, "One-X", which entitled, "Animal I Have Become". On June 13, 2006, One-X was released and the group landed at number five on the U.S. Billboard 200. It sold over 78,000 copies in the record's first week. Three Days Grace is on tour with Staind to promote the record. In December of 2006, the album's second single, "Pain", was also released and topped the Billboard's Mainstream Rock Charts.

Two songs coming from the album One-X are also in video games called, "WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007", "Animal I Have Become" and "Riot".

The band has appeared on CBS in several ways. The song, "Pain", was featured as a background song for a commercial of the show "Criminal Minds", as well as the song, "Riot", being played on a commercial for the show, "The Unit". As special guests, they also appeared on the show, "GhostWhisperer".

The band also appeared in the film, "Raise Your Voice", performing their unreleased song, "Are You Ready?", which also appears on the soundtrack. The reason for their appearance, is that allegedly star, Hilary Duff, is also a big fan of the band.

The band did a remix of the song, "Just Like You", with rapper Bonecrusher for the XXX, State of the Union soundtrack. Bonecrusher had previously done a rock duet with Fozzy.
