A triumph...An expansive environment, expensive cars and plenty of company to race against make for an intoxicating Hawaiian cocktail. [Mar 2007, p.62]

Gaming Nexus
Test Drive Unlimited is just like Grand Theft Auto, except without the sex, violence, swearing... well, ok, it's only kind of like GTA, but it is still the most fun you can have in a virtual Ferrari without risking getting a dose of a virtual social disease.

TDU's MMO elements are slight compared to quest-and-kill fare, but it's still the greatest advancement of the driving-a-pretend-car concept in years... A car fancier's wish-dream. [Feb 2007, p.74]

PC Zone UK
TDU still offers a massive, inviting, and involving world for racing fans to gather in and share their love of cars. All with a cocktail on the side, too. [Mar 2007, p.64]

It's a breath of fresh air to the racing genre and features some of the best online integration to date.

The array of cars and the wide open roadways are wonderful, but there aren't a great deal of things to do with either of them.

In the end, Test Drive Unlimited is about having the ability to race amazing fantasy vehicles around an amazing fantasy island - and that core element works extremely well.

TDU is a good online racing title and fits the bill for any racing fanatic. But the lack of general player life and some graphical faults knocked the score a little bit.

From the fact that the entire game world is essentially a lobby for multiplayer gaming to real-world open ended racing, Test Drive Unlimited gives you the option to let your imagination set the course. The game successfully brings the feel of the MMO world to the racing genre making for a unique game.

Rough in spots and a bit too casual for some, Test Drive Unlimited nevertheless delivers a truly innovative format and a gorgeous, massive world populated by real people. Now get in and drive!

If you can maneuver around its speed bumps, Test Drive Unlimited delivers a satisfying and visually opulent ride. [July 2007, p.56]

Game Chronicles
One of the rather useless parts they have added to the game was the clothes, accessories and being able to change your character. I found this to be something that seemed like an addition thrown in to try and add value to the game, but who wants to spend time picking out a new outfit when you could be racing.

It's not quite as unlimited as its subtitle might suggest, and it's got a pervasively aimless feel, but Test Drive Unlimited still succeeds by creating a fun, leisurely world to drive in.

TDU is all about driving fast in expensive cars through gorgeous locales and that's exactly what it delivers. It's not a sim, so don't expect GTR2-level realism.

An ambitious game that hasn't (yet) fulfilled its potential. There's brilliance here, but it's currently being smothered by technical issues and an unfortunately wobbly multiplayer component.

Renan K. gave it a9:
An incredible game with a fantastic and new idea, but it lacks in multiplayer gaming. Anyay if you get an wheel joystick the game will reveal you its full engine power, with stunning physics and an awesome realism that can be compared to RACE 2.

Tom gave it a10:
This game is awesome.Yes it's an arcade game but much much better than last 2 NFS titles.

Jon The Horrible gave it a0:
It doesnt work, theres no patch, and the bits that do work or need fixing get boring very easily. Whats the point of making an online racing game you cant either get online with or when you can, everyone has connection problems so you cant race them. Steer clear (pardon the pun) unless it gets fixed. By the way the lyrics to the installation music go- This is an excuse that we're making we're making, Is it good enough for what you're paying you're paying It's just another excuse Is this song about Atari's support? ... Say no more

Chris H. gave it a9:
This is a great racing game, don't see many on the Pc so I would suggest picking this up! The gameplay is surprisingly arcadey, with tasks varying in content, ie straight forward racing to dropping pretty girls around town, but then penalized for giving them a bum ride! Other side missions like delivering cars etc add as a pleasant and rewarding distraction from the main element of the game. You will certainly require a good PC to play this at a full detail. I max the lot with FSAA 4x to boot and get an average of 40fps on the flat screen view (best for this game). My specs are AMD X2 AM2 3800+, 2gb DDR800, SATA, Radeon X1950 Pro 512mb. You are warned!
