Possess the never-before-experienced powers of Black-Suited Spider-Man. Unleash incredible agility, amazing durability and awe-inspiring web abilities. But be warned - the rush your intensified powers bring could overwhelm you. More freedom than ever. More city than ever. For the first time, enjoy unprecedented freedom—choosing what you want to do, when you want to do it. There's no checklist to complete in order to progress. You set your own next goal, roaming anywhere you want - including subterranean areas such as subways, sewers and villains' lairs - in the most massive, detailed New York City ever seen in a Spider-Man game. Experience an all-new combat system, two exciting ways. Redesigned from the ground up, a unique combat system empowers both Spider-Man and Black-Suited Spider-Man to perform suit-specific powers and abilities. State of the art animations, combos and finishers make punch, kick and web attacks more super-heroic than ever. Battle 10 of Spider-Man’s most infamous enemies from the movie and Marvel universe, including Sandman and Venom. [Activision]

Spider-Man 3 doesn’t reinvent the Spider-Man games or action games in general. But it’s hard to beat the feeling of swinging across Times Square, free diving down, and then saving yourself at the last minute.

The game is not only bigger, but also better in almost every way. The graphics, the animation, the lighting, and the overall storyline cohesion – the whole package is vastly improved.

Worth Playing
I enjoyed swinging through Spider-man 3 even though I felt that game tasks were becoming more and more repetitive as I progressed.

If you're up to it, this is certainly the best Spider-Man game that's graced a PC yet, even if it's also one of the toughest.

If you are you die-hard Spidey fan and must have this game, do yourself a favor and buy a gamepad. For all others, avoid getting caught in this web.

Spider-Man 3 certainly has its enjoyable moments, but camera issues and repetitive combat keep it from reaching its full potential.

The graphics miss a beat when it comes to the characters themselves. While Spider-man might look great, everyone from Peter down to J. Jonah Jameson looks painfully done.

By now, Spider-Man should be swinging for the fences when it comes to his own video games -- no other game character can even move like Spidey. None. But instead, he's leaps and bounds behind less superheroic fare, and he's fending off too many inner demons which, in this case, are castrated frame rates and multiple bugs choking up his web sights.

The good news for PC owners is that the PC version happens to be a port of the 360/PS3 version. The bad news is that this port doesn't quite cut it. The control scheme is totally unplayable unless you have a good dual-analog gamepad, and a number of performance problems frequently get in the way of the action.

If you cannot resist the temptation to web-swing through NYC, don't forget to bring a few tranquilizers to numb the inevitable pain from dealing with terrible frame rates, crappy camera and not exactly consistent single-player mission design.

A mess, but an interesting one. [July 2007, p.76]

Unfortunately, it's the monkey's paw of game ports. [Aug 2007, p.70]

On other platforms, I was lenient on the game because even though the missions were terrible, the web-swinging was fun. Sadly, that's not the case here. The swinging through the city on the PC is cumbersome and awkward. You'll never feel like you're Spider-Man if your wielding webs with your keyboard.

When you consider that the game is far too ugly to be shown on an unforgiving monitor - cel-shaded Ultimate Spider-Man looked infinitely better - and that it asks for an unjustifiable 6GB of HD space, and that we couldn't get more than 30 frames-a-second out of a fairly hot PC... Well, it doesn't seem like the best way to spend £30. Our advice would be to avoid the PC version of Spider-Man 3 like a spunk-filled bowler hat.

Great step forward from the first and second PC spider-man games (that based on movies).

Spider-Man 3 is a brilliant PC game, but the consoles are FAR better
